actually, congress needs to just do nothing and they will go up for everyone at the end of the year when the infamous Bush tax cuts expire.
People need to call Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, and John Boehner and let them know they can't afford a tax hike, and they are middle class. I did. I can get the numbers if anyone is interested.

CALL Eric Cantor 202-225-2815
CALL Mitch McConnell 202-224-2541
CALL John Boeher 202-225-6205
Tell their offices you WANT the OBAMA tax cuts for the MIDDLE CLASS and we want to END the Bush tax cuts for the RICH!
Or, do nothing but bitch and complain on this message board all day. It's your world, make your choice.

If one rejects laissez faire on account of mans fallibility and moral weakness, one must for the same reason also reject every kind of government action.
that isn't true, and I'll outline for you why. It would be nice if you could outline your thinking in return.
It's obvious that man is fallible. Morality has nothing to do with this. The idea is that all of us working together toward a common goal is more productive than every man and woman dancing to the beat of their own drum. Additionally, there is a lot of potential for civil rights abuses under a laissez-faire system. We have proof of this from our history during the industrial revolution. I'm sure you're fully aware, and I don't know why I even have to bring it up.
I believe that true Democracy is possible, and today's technology makes it so.
Never before in history has man had the communication ability at their fingertips the way we do today. If something happens anywhere in the world, everyone can be made aware in a matter of days -- some in a matter of moments.
Our biggest asset is the internet and freedom of speech. It's much more important than owning a gun. The cold war is over and we're now in the age of information -- embrace it or die.
