Usually parents have a different view of their baby .. those 'ugly' features probably resemble some adult in the family and are therefore cute to mom and dad. 'look he has uncle eddie's nose!'

luckly most babies smell like cookies (when they aren't messing themselves) and that helps too. I agree that ugly on the inside is probably harder to deal with.

Man, this thread catapults me right back to my younger days. My Mom was friends with another woman who had three boys in rapid succession, 2 of them were twins. We visited one day. These were just the most godawful monkey-looking babies ever put on this earth. Tremendous overbites with huge honkin' noses, barking and carrying on like zoo animals.. I remember as soon as we left, even my mom...the sweetest human being on Earth...couldn't contain her laughter We all made jokes and laughed hysterically in the car on the ride home. I always wondered if the mother was secretly disappointed that her offspring looked like something you tossed raw fish to in a cage.
