Riddle me these questions.
Well, it goes something like this:
Back in the 70's, there was this guy called the Shah of Iran. He was a brutal asshole, but he wasn't a communist, and his country had a bunch of oil so we sold him guns and planes and stuff. The people who kicked him out and took his place, well, they were brutal assholes too.
And they were pissed at us because we supported the first guy. So they douched out and took some of our folks hostage for a while.
That really pissed us off, and we tried to get back at them by selling guns and planes and stuff to another brutal asshole in Iraq, because he had oil, and also wanted to kill the brutal assholes in Iran because they worshiped the wrong brand of the right God. And a lot of kids died.
Around the same time, the Communists, because they wanted to spread their philosophy, and have a warm-water port or something, went to war with some brutal assholes in Afghanistan. We really didn't like the communists, so we gave the assholes in Afghanistan a bunch of guns and missiles and strategery to fight those commies, which kind of worked.
Meanwhile, the brutal asshole in Iraq, he decided he wanted to take some land and oil from some somewhat less brutal assholes in Kuwait, and went for it.
(Here's where it starts to get interesting, and where all of your questions probably get answered)
We didn't like that. So we blew up a bunch of his shit, and killed some of the Iraqi kids that the Iranian kids hadn't already killed.
Oh, and when we did that, we put a bunch of troops and stuff in Saudi Arabia, which was, and is still run by a bunch of brutal assholes. But they sell us A LOT of oil, and are friends with the Bushes of Kennebunkport.
One of the brutal assholes who fought the Commies in Afghanistan was pissed off to see foreign troops where he was born (Saudi) and he threatened to blow some of our shit up.
Eventually, he did, which was one of the saddest days of my life.
So we invaded Afghanistan and blew a bunch of shit up trying to catch him. We're still kinda trying to straighten that shit out.
A little after we blew up the Afghani shit, the Bushes of Crawford decided that they still really, really didn't like the brutal asshole in Iraq, so they blew a bunch of his shit up, and arranged to have him hanged. We're still trying to straighten that shit out too.
So, you see, we'll get around to blowing up all of the brutal assholes sooner or later. It just takes us longer to get to some than to others. Because there are some brutal assholes we still like. But if history is any judge, they'll get pissed at us, or we at them sooner or later.
Everything makes sense now, yes?

Perfectly stated.
But since you didn't mention Carter, Clinton, or Obama, certain people here are still trying to figure out how to dispute it.
I'm sure they'll find a way eventually, probably with some 20 year old blanket insult, just that now you made their little lefty heads spin.

Well, if it helps anyone to come up with blanket insults, Carter, Clinton and Obama suck too.
Though I find it interesting that when people a hundred or more years down the road peer back, there's a good chance Ol' Bill's gonna end up looking pretty good.

Now I'm a fool? Really?
That's very impressive of you. Care to prove me wrong?
There is a thread FULL of information here on this as it unfolded. The only fools around here are the ones who blindly believe the bullshit they are told without doing any independent research.
Go ahead, find the thread and prove me wrong. Otherwise, I'll be waiting for an apology on attacking my character.
so you deserve an apology for being called a fool but calling me capt_moran is ok...?

Awwww....You're right Capt, I apologise for calling you capt_moran. It is wrong of me to do. I will never do it again since you're bringing to my attention as insulting.
Well I'm glad you've finally seen the light, but ser.biz.
It has to be brought to your attention that it's insulting?

It's not a matter of whether it counts.
In Libya there is almost a perfect storm of conditions. We know who Ghadafi is, he was threatening mass violence, there is strong international agreement on what to do, and we could have an effect on the situation without, for example, introducing ground troops.
If you believe the reports tens of thousands were about to massacred in Benghazi. I certainly don't know if those reports are true, but Ghadafi was talking about no mercy
Exactly.
Blows my mind that some people have trouble seeing this...

I have no trouble seeing that Ghadafi is a brutal asshole. I have no trouble with the idea of his gettin' gone.
I'm troubled by the notion that we're involved in 3 wars in the Middle East at one time. And whatever our President may chose not to call this, it's war.
I'm troubled by the notion that we're spending money we don't have in order to prosecute this "not a war."
I'm troubled that, to my knowledge, Congress has yet to declare this "not a war."
I'm troubled by the hypocrisy of attacking dictators we don't like, and propping up those we do.
I'm troubled by the notion that, while I'd like to see him go, Ghadafi's removal from power will create a power vacuum, and that we may be fighting more Libyans down the road.
I think this one should have been left to Europe.
And I think it's a damn shame that Western policy and thirst for oil have allowed situations like this to happen.

I never browse by forum anyway. I just hit "Today's Posts" for current topics or "My Threads/Replies" for lower posting threads that I've posted in that might have fallen off the front page. Seems to be the easiest way to navigate IMO
