the only consistency with all of the spaghetti plots is that it will make landfall somewhere in the mid-atlantic states. where it hits and where it goes after that are really anyone's guess. :dunno:

it's going to sit right on top of us and muddle around for a couple of days until it gets caught up in some eastward moving front

Just went out for cat food & cigarettes and I think the panic has reached its peak. All I can say is thank God I did the supermarket Friday night. I don't want to be anywhere near there today.

So last night I figured what the hell, and called around to the number of Lowes and Home Depots and the like, just to see if they had generators. Never know if a truck just came in.

None of them had, but one, the Lowes in Butler said a truck was coming in the morning.

So of course like a dope I show up at 8am when they open and there is 500 people standing in line.

Long story short, I missed the cutoff for todays shipment of generators. But got a ticket for one on tomorrows truck, if it can make it and if I can make it to the store.

Looks like We are in the clear unless this storm shifts east. Our area of LI is only predicting 2-4 inches of rain, and although we only live 2 blocks from the LI Sound, Sere way high up on a bluff... The waves would have to get to 100 feet before anything would happen.

I hope everyone else stays safe, though..

i went up on my parents roof and cleaned the gutters. one was full of swamp water and had a pine tree growing up out of the leader. I pulled the tree out with lots of root and soil but the muddy water still didn't drain well.

just checked the map, i'm still 1 block away from an evacuation zone.

i love how the city is shutting down all trasnsport, keeping kids home from school and expects everyone else to go to work tomorrow.

Not me. No trains = no way to get to work. Plus I think they may shut down my office.

Can't imagine the ferry's gonna be running, so you may not have transport either. Any possibility of your office shutting down?

Just recieved this:

"This is a code red message from the Asbury Park Office of Emergency Management.
While Hurricane Sandy is anticipated to make land fall between Monday evening and Tuesday morning severe wind and rain is expected to hit Asbury Park starting Sunday evening. We are recommending that all residents living in flood prone areas evacuate as soon as possible. The areas recommended for evacuation include: all residents living in proximity of a body of water, all residents living between Grand Avenue and Ocean Avenue and residents living in the Springwood Avenue corridor."

I live between Grand and Ocean. I think we are going to leave...i cant lose my car to seawater...

Good call. And if your gf still refuses, hogtie her & toss her in the car. She'll thank you later.

ferry web site is typically very slow to give any updates.
not one mention the last time i checked.
#1 san is in Japan, # 2 San is an AH in Hartford , #3 is about 32 years old, in country for a year and prolly won't make the call.
the building will close if the city says it has to, but given the address, they will keep it open, just like ourneighbor across the street (NYSA).

no way i'm parking at the ferry tomorrow, so no bus, no work.
getting in may not be a problem, getting home will be.

i'm gussing they may scrap the JCCI NY annual gala tuesday night, so i'll miss the 30 min talk by Cyndi Lauper

MTA services are shutting down beginning at 7 tonight so unless SI has its own service, no bus for you.

My advice is to start drinking now. ;)

well, all the gnomes are now safely inside and we're preparing for house guests who need to evacuate from the island. schools are closed Monday and Tuesday at the least, and we are all stocked up on everything needed to ride out the storm. Jason's folks are leaving for higher ground soon, thank goodness. might move our cars to the restaurant parking lot up the block just in case our road floods. our neighbor has a cedar tree we're worried about once the high winds and rain begin, so our driveway is not a safe haven for them.

and that's that. hope everyone is doing all they can to be prepared, and being smart. xo
