Can anyone suggest a relatively simple (intermediate maybe?? more than beginner, but not expert ) pattern for a winter shawl/capelette/poncho? Something that you could use as a wrap over a nice outfit but that would also keep you warm...

I can knitt. My mom taught me when I was like 10. I have bags of needles and yarn randomly in each of my houses (mom, dad and jersey). Im just not a good knitter. I forget to count stitches and drop stitches all the time. I suppose I would get better with practice. I should bust them out and practice....

I am looking for patterns for my mom to make something.

Oh, I didn't know you could knit. Sweet! Even though I can knit, I still have my Mom make me things.

I have a book of patterns at home for Prayer Shawls. You obviously don't have to use them for praying. They are super pretty and comfy! They are knit with the cozy Homespun yarn. Sooooo soft! (The yarn is a PITA to knit with, though)
