Would you be upset about something like this?

We had two people on facebook who felt pretty screwed about the $100 they spent. Hell, I was slightly disappointed about the hour and a half show we saw the other night(it was a great show), but I'm spoiled by our favorite bands playing for three hours.....

Jack White Abruptly Ends Radio City Show Leading to Angry Fan Micro-Mob

Jack White is playing a pair of shows at Radio City Music Hall this weekend and last night’s sold out concert was short on songs and long on drama. The former White Stripes frontman abruptly left the stage after an hour prompting a crowd of irate fans to take to the streets.
The Observer was in attendance for pleasure rather than business, but once things got weird, we got to work. But, despite our best efforts, we’re still not entirely sure what happened.
Mr. White’s show began with a rollicking set featuring songs from his recent solo album, Blunderbuss, and tracks from his bands; The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. From our seat in the nosebleeds, it seemed as though Mr. White’s music was enthusiastically received by the crowd. However, after about forty-five minutes, Mr. White suddenly left the stage.
Thinking this was the standard concert tease that often occurs prior to an encore, the vast majority of the audience remained, clapping and cheering in an effort to encourage Mr. White to retake the stage. After over twenty minutes, all of the house lights were turned on and ushers began to make their way through the crowd informing them the show was finished.
“The show is over. We don’t know why. You’ll probably find out on a blog, MediaTakeOut or some other source,” one said.
This early ending clearly did not sit well with the crowd.
As fans, who paid a minimum of $40 to attend the concert, filed out the venue we heard (and may have even participated in) chants of “Fuck Jack White!” and “This is Bullshit!” In the lobby, we witnessed multiple attendees angrily returning merchandise they had purchased at the show.
Outside Radio City, a group of over 100 people began to gather outside the main backstage exit booing and demanding answers as to why the show concluded so abruptly. Security quickly erected barricades and began pushing the crowd back. In addition to banging on parked cars and the repeated shouts of “Fuck Jack White,” we overheard a few more inventive bits of invective.
“Jack White kills puppies,” one man yelled.
“I’m going to fuck Meg White,” another person said, referring to Mr. White’s former White Stripes bandmate.
“Bababooey!” someone else yelled, perhaps inevitably.
The mini-mob became more enraged when deliverymen showed up to bring multiple pizza pies back stage. As Radio City staffers and others left the exit they were barraged with questions from the crowd. Most remained silent, but one man in a Radio City t-shirt was slightly more forthcoming.
“Y’all do me a favor, when he gets out, boo his ass,” he said.
In addition to the boos and shouts, rumors flew through the crowd. We spoke to multiple people who claimed Mr. White had several angry exchanges with a shirtless man in the front row. They said the man who provoked Mr. White’s ire was subsequently removed by security. Others claimed Mr. White shouted something before leaving the stage. From our seats in the second to last row of the theater, we hadn’t seen anything amiss. A post from BuzzFeed Music that, seemingly without basis, blamed the situation on Mr. White’s rage at scalpers also circulated throughout the crowd.
After about an hour, the group outside Radio City thinned to about 50 angry diehards. Along with the rumors, the situation provoked a flurry of frenzied tweets. One hashtag, #JackWhiteDebacle, which was coined by the inimitable @Blabbeando, quickly generated over 50 postings.
Many in the crowd speculated Mr. White was displeased with the response he got from the audience.
“Jesus Christ, is this an NPR convention?” Mr. White asked at one point during the show.
However, having seen Mr. White twice before, mocking the crowd to get louder seems to be part of his regular repertoire.
Eventually, a member of the Radio City security team provided us with an answer.
“He wasn’t happy with the sound,” the man said when we asked if he knew why the show seemingly ended so early. “I don’t know why he pulled that.”
He added that Radio City staffers expected the evening to last much longer.
Since we had a seemingly credible answer and our companion was very eager to get home, we decided to head to the subway rather than remain at the venue attempting to continue deciphering the reasons for Mr. White’s diva-like departure. We sent an email to his publicist asking for an explanation, but, as of this writing, we have yet to receive a response.

I have never been happy with his "sound". Needs a bass guitar badly.

Though I do understand that many punk, alternative, rock acts often only perform 45 minutes to an hour and a half. The ones that perform 45 minutes usually have like 4 more bands on the bill.

idk i think anything less than an hour 15 is a major rip off, i dont care what kind of music you perform

unless you are at an event with many many acts and time constrictions

Even though they play two sets. Most jam bands stretch the set break as long as possible to make it seem like the show was much longer then it was.

I thought they stretched it to get as buzzed as possible before set 2?

one thing I've heard about radio city before is that if you're on stage it's really quiet, something about the acoustics of that room are designed to bring sound easily from the stage to the audience but not in the other direction, so maybe he didn't like the sound, or the monitor mix, or maybe he truly didn't think the crowd was responding... either way I don't think it's a good reason to cut a paid performance short...

I thought everybody uses in-ear monitors now to get the stage sound just exactly perfect.

weird

the only time I've felt completely ripped off for a show I attended was for Mediski, Martin and Wood at Higher Ground in 2005. Showtime was for 9:30, they didn't go on until after 10:30 and it was over and I was walking out the door at 12:15. I had paid around $30 for the ticket.

the only time I've felt completely ripped off for a show I attended was for the Dead at Nassau Coliseum in 91 or 92. Six song first set, six song second set. They tried to make up for it with a Terrapin encore, but I was pissed.

remember seeing primus in boston, circa 2006 or 2007 maybe, had the most disgustingly terrible opening band and played for a total 1 hr, with about a five minute break between the set and the encore. was really disappointed with Les that night, I recall we all sat in our seats until someone told us to leave... "you mean we paid $60 for our tickets and they're not coming back on?" and no, those $60 tix were not from a scalper

He's got some good riffs nearly every rock guitar player stumbled over at some point or another. Imo he Gets a zero for originality but a 10 for "knowing" good riffs from crappy ones. Would love jam with him!

I was at that show too, it was the '91 Nassau run. I remember the Terrapin encore being pretty short itself!

Surprisingly, that show (3/28/91) has generally good reviews on Archive. Competing theories are that somebobby had gastrointestinal distress, or that the band was charged triple scale for running past curfew the night before and was acting out.

I thought it was a well-played show, just incredibly short in comparison to the rest of the shows I saw on that run (St. Patrick's Day in Landover, Albany and Nassau)

So another friend on FB is now saying that he just did it again to the people at the show tonight!!! Unbelievable!!!

The night after his puzzling 55-minute show at New York's Radio City Music Hall, Jack White returned to the same venue and blasted through 21 songs in about 85 minutes, barely speaking a word to the crowd.
On Saturday, White played 12 songs with his all-male band before leaving the stage with no encore. "Jesus Christ, is this an NPR convention?" White said at one point. After he left, thousands stayed in their seats for several minutes, chanting "Seven Nation Army" before erupting in boos when the curtain went down. The Observer reported that White was upset with the venue's sound, and also noted that White had several "angry exchanges" with a shirtless fan in the front row.

White has yet to make a statement on the incident, but he seemed in better spirits last night. Around 9:10 p.m., he emerged with his all-female band, the Peacocks, beginning with new cut "Missing Pieces" and gesturing for the sound crew to turn up his microphone several times. He seemed satisfied by the fourth song, "Hotel Yorba," a huge crowd singalong, then performed an epic, extended acoustic version of the Raconteurs' "Top Yourself" before moving into his own variation on "Maggie's Farm: "I ain't gonna work on Penny's farm no more/No I ain't gonna work Penny's farm no more/Well she does her best to look like me/But all she does is sit around and watch TV." From there, he played a crushing version of the White Stripes' "Cannon/John the Revelator" and "Screwdriver."

White regularly paced around the stage between songs deciding which instrument he'd pick up, giving the show the element of danger he's said he strives for, and the crowd consistently roared heavily, determined to keep him onstage. He played a new, violin-heavy version of "We're Going to Be Friends" as everyone clapped along, then began the riff "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" on the piano before immediately switching to a full version of James Booker's R&B deep cut, "Papa Was a Rascal: "There was a sweet white woman/Down in Savannah, GA/She made love to my daddy/In front the KKK." White then switched back to "Dead Leaves," this time playing the song's bone-crushing riff on guitar. "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" was bouncy and playful, full of soul.

When White left the stage after "Ball and Biscuit" – the same song he ended with the night before – the crowd erupted in a deafening roar, determined to hear more. He emerged for a four-song encore that included heavy takes on "Sixteen Saltines" and "Seven Nation Army" before leading an acoustic singalong with "Goodnight, Irene."

Had tickets to that one. had to go home instead. Almost combusted when I heard they encored with Terrapin. I heard that they had equipment problems all night, but who knows?
