you just pick a room and then pick a color and it will put it on the wall for you. if anyone is bored and wants to play around with color and you find something you like, I'm open to suggestions.

our bedroom is pismo dunes (seen it on HGTV but don't know what brand, my sister has it in her living room, too).
ralph lauren barn owl white is the living room but those are warmer tones so i'm not sure they're up your alley...
did you try picking a color out of that pretty rug I see? that's an easy place to start...

I've seen your house so no
kidding...kinda
I haven't ever painted one of my places, nor tried lately to coordinate furnishings (I haven't bought new ones in years), etc. because it's all been temporary situations or rentals since you've known me - not something that I've really wanted to invest in. That doesn't mean that I'm incapable or that other men here wouldn't have good suggestions. I just think it's pretty biased to think that only the ladies might have good opinions on this
First opinion: While Sherman-Williams is very good paint, you are going to pay a premium for it. There are only a few applications (like metal roofs or stucco masonry) where I would pay for that premium. There's other paint out there (Benjamin Moore - at the right place, Valspar @ Lowes, Behr and Glidden @ Home Depot) that will meet your needs just fine, be just as durable, and save you a few dollars. As a contractor, I know these things

i got 6 samples today. the blue i posted above is out - too babyish.
i think i may go with a warm/soft blue in the kitchen (white cabinets, black hardware, black counter tops) something like this:
http://www.sherwin-w.../SW7616_breezy/
do you think that blue will look good with white cabinets and black hardware and counter tops?
kitchen cabinets:(edit, actual cabinet) http://www.potomacca...y.com/devon.asp
this is my kitchen counter top: http://www.lowes.com...abrador+granite
the hardware I choose for kitchen cabinets is a black wrought iron (knobs but also a few really nice pulls)
i am sticking with this one for the dining room - i love it on the wall. http://www.sherwin-w....0_techno_gray/
i'd love the guys input, sean, just didn't think they would care. lol
spending way too much time on this

I like your things.
. I am lousy at colors and when left to my own devices, am too afraid and end up with bland. My husband is an artist and tends to pick bold and beautiful colors that I love. So, another vote for letting the fellas help. And, can you help me decorate?
thanks
Bathroom: Go with the brighter color.. they are calming.. maybe more browns.. or a light purple?
so we only have the cool grays to choose from?
i am prolly gonna stick with the violet color i currently have in my bathroom. prolly.

Behr is a fine paint, but I find that it needs to be thinned a little. Benjamin Moore is a great paint, but typically overpriced like Sherwin Williams as it is normally only sold at small dealers; if you can find it at a comparable price to Valspar, go for it. Glidden makes one of the best general purpose primers out there - Gripper; it is much better than Kilz, IMO.
thanks, sean. sherwin had a sale today 30% off all paint. i bought 6 gallons and a gallon of semi-gloss for trim. i haven't decided on the colors so he said just bring 'em back when i know and he'll add the tint for me.

The color should compliment a tone/color in the countertop though.
regarding the SW paint - are the other 6 gallons flat? that would be a mistake, IMO. Satin maybe. Flat is, well, too flat. At least no tone has been added. You can always swap or return.

they look the same as what's in my current kitchen

yes, all paint is flat. that's what i have now (except in my living room). i like flat in the bedrooms. i'll use satin in bathroom. and prolly need another gallon or two anyway so i'll make that satin

I really love the color of your current living room. You say it's really rich, I find it warm and inviting. You have a very clean and uncluttered taste, so I don't think it would be too much for your new place.
which, you better be coming down to see, lady
I love yellow and white for a kitchen. And you can make it work with other colors by getting a flat pale yellow (but pretty) and trim it with a white.
can't do yellow - even paile - not sure why. prolly going with a soft green in kitchen.

"anew gray" in the kitchen http://www.sherwin-w...7030_anew_gray/
"essential gray" in both bedrooms (which actually has a really pretty lavender hue) http://www.sherwin-w...essential_gray/
"gateway gray" (looks green on wall) in the dining room http://www.sherwin-w...4_gateway_gray/
"adaptive shade" (translates to a deep green on wall) in the living room http://www.sherwin-w...adaptive_shade/
i used lavender in the bathroom - omg, it's such a beautiful space. my favorite room.
I'll post pics after seany comes to put the kitchen in this weekend
