he is finally (!) getting some meat on his very most bony parts, like his hip bones. we keep brushing out his dreads and he keeps getting new ones. he has the most interesting fur! we call him our little hippie cat who just came off phish tour

he is soooo affectionate ![]()
still a little jumpy like he hates it when i try to wipe the goonkie stuff out of his eyes. the other cats are completely used to me doing that. he's also finally not acting completely starving all the time although he is the peskiest one when it's food time...
all in all, it's quite amazing how well he is, considering how starving he was when walked into our house about 4 months ago ![]()

because we had no idea what was wrong with him and he was obviously not well....
so... he's probably a senior cat. 12 or older. no diseases but he has a heart murmur (not a bad one like red had) and he has a hyperthyroid condition that he's probably had for a long time... he is ravenous constantly and does not gain weight. he's only 8.5 lbs! and he's huge! long and fluffy but skin and bones underneath. so, we'll get meds tomorrow. he was also vaccinated, de-wormed, poked and prodded and was super sweet the whole time.
he might not have a lot of life left but what he has will be magnificent since he chose to live it with us

yeah, ophelia is a nightmare at the vet, too...yowling like someone is plucking whiskers, clawing to get away like we are all monsters...no bad experiences for her to be thinking of, not sure why she is like that? ![]()
she has always been insecure, maybe its that simple...who knows...
i would love monkey hugs at the vet! marley was good at the vet. he would cry a little but then explore the room...miss him ![]()

so... shaggy is now "shavey"... at least for awhile until his fur grows back! it's so nice getting rid of that matted fur for him. he was pulling mouthfuls out every day. the vet said it was probably pulling on his very sensitive skin.
also: thyroid meds are working and he gained 2 lbs in a month! he still has a long way to go... but he's doing so good ![]()

well, his numbers actually went up (not good) but he is gaining weight so it's kind of weird. we're going to increase the dosage one more time before we consider surgery. i know it's a simple surgery but they have to put him under and he's really a pretty old cat, i'm thinking like 13 or 14... i hope this works because i really don't want him to have to go through that...
