poor thing has been starving! he used to be healthy, we'd see him on our street. i think he must've been abandoned. he's so skinny! but we're feeding him 2x a day, he gets clean water and he even let me put flea medicine on him today. if he's a "he". i can't get that close and it's awfully shaggy in the back

we're getting close to being able to take shags to the vet. he has let lawrence pick him up a couple of times and we have had the travel case out for a few days now so it won't be totally foreign to him. we set up a towel bed for him under the bar-b-que on the back porch and he likes it there. he'll come in to eat but still is more comfortable outside but once in awhile i'll catch him hanging out on the front door rug.
he finally is starting to feel like he's getting a little meat on his bones! the other cats seem to like him. even luna is tolerating him

so forest and i managed to clip some of the dreads out yesterday. shaggy was actually purring the whole time. forest picked him up and i started snipping. you can see where there are still some sticking out.... he seems to be cleaning himself beautifully from his head to the base of his (extremely long) neck, his front legs, and some underneath. the top of him is still very gray. i'm hoping that by clipping out the dreads, he is more inspired to groom his whole self

we clipped some more dreads out yesterday. he seems to be cleaning his back legs and paws now too. slow progress, but it's been that way the whole time. he is still very skinny, esp his hip bones but when i pet him down his back, i can feel where he's put on some meat! he's just the sweetest thing, loves his head scratched and has a strong purr, never even thinks about bothering the other cats, they are all fine with him. i tried to look in his mouth the other day and his teeth are pretty yellow so i'm thinking he might be an older cat. it's really so hard to say. when floyd showed up in our back yard, he was obviously a kitten but no idea with the shags.

i know... really sad but with a really, super happy ending he was so starving. and now that he's filling in, i realize how starving he actually was! the more matted pieces i clip out, the better he can groom himself. we have to do all of this slowly though... he is really super soft and has the longest neck of any cat i've ever seen! it's llama like
