how's he doin?

thanks for asking, kris.  honestly, it's hard to tell.  i'm pretty sure he knows what's up...but then there are times i think that he thinks she's only gone for a short time and is coming back.

he won't sleep on what was primarily her bed in the living room ("bed" = collection of soft things [including an actual dog bed] with a heated seed mat underneath in the winter), when previously he used to steal the spot whenever she would move.  he now spends his napping time (read daytime when he's not eating or playing) right in front of her la-z-boy in the bedroom, also something new for him (the spot, not the napping).

he played "stick" yesterday (the video) without a hint of something being awry, but then he also looks around the apt; presumably for her.  also something new in his routine.

i guess over the next few weeks i'll be able to get a bead on where he is regarding her absence.  for now it's a tough call, even though i think there was communication between them the day she left, and it's clear to him that my mood is more somber and sad.

Woody...today before the rain.  This time I used the phone in landscape position and it made a huge difference!

I'd imagine Woody is missing her, how could he not - even if dogs can't process cognitively, there's got to be some "knowing" absence. :(

Hope each day gets better, A.

When our Delia passed away at 22, Sage was 18 and was definitely experiencing stress in response to it.  We brought her for B12 aquapuncture once or twice and she did great after that.

Sending lots of love to you and Woody!

<3 Woody and his person.

It's interesting how things can change...when I lost half of my last pack, it was the dominant female who died, and the more submissive (though larger) male became much more relaxed and at ease.

Wait, that totally sounds chauvanistic...that was not my goal.

thanks, kris, karen and tim.

after he watched me carry her from the kitchen in the middle of the night before, woody lay down next to her in the living room, where she was on her bed and me on the recliner.  however such information is passed from one dog to another, that communication occurred.  he walked with us as i carried her to the car.  i think he knows. <3

you really love that dog, you can tell cuz they look so freakin happy!

Dogs are truly empathic beings...they know things better than we do when it comes to infection, illness, etc.

No chocolate for dogs.  He'd snarf the bacon in a split second!

Pooper in the snow! I've got some great videos of my two nitwits playing in the snow yesterday. They go nutz.

I love watching dogs leap in snow, like a fox.
