i was bored and clicking around in L&S and got intrigued by that thread about PT and feeling dirty, etc.
looked like it was good for some laughs and proceeded to click the link and BOOM, i have a really nasty virus on my computer now :bang:

my computer is next door running in safe mode, trying to get rid of it using malware bytes
wish me luck **sigh**

many many thanks to chip who has been helping me out

i called avg and they want $130 to $200 to fix it!
i seriously cant afford that so if the fix chip is talking me through doesnt work, i am screwed...

eff phantasy tour in its stupid bum Posted Image

Are you running and anti-virus? If so, it should alert you to potential hazards. Sorry to hear, Dee...

If you can't get it off with those two programs, you can post over on the bleepingcomputer.com forums and they will help you get the computer clean. Follow the instructions as to what programs they want you to run and the post back the logs they ask for. They've helped me on more than a few computers that we didn't want to go through the pain of rebuilding from the ground up.

dee,
there are a few things you can check.
while in safe mode, open IE. go to internet options, then connections. click on LAN settings. unchecked use proxy (if checked that is)
them run malwarebytes.
if that doesn't help. download avast. it is free. look for the check box for "boot scan "

for many of these viruses, avast is the only option to fix. the boot scan runs an antivirus scan before windows loads, making it safer to run.

I think i picked up an obnoxious computer virus today. When you press S in a browser, the save winow opens. Same with O, V, etc. it's like the shortcut disease. Haven't tried to fix yet.

Don't pay some "Tech" assclown to fix your comp for $180. Just reformat if the AVs can't handle it. It's really quite easy.

That does not sound like a virus. Sounds like your CTRL key is stuck...

PT itself shouldn't infect your computer, although it could cause mental distress. If my work computer lets me load it, PT is probably safe. The virus might have come from somewhere else, and happened to activate around the time you decided to read that thread.

so matt gets the :clapping: award cuz i went to bleepingcomputer.com and the helpful geeks over there took me right to a fix for this particular issue
it took a 7 hour scan to isolate, quarantine and eradicate the fucker but as of now, my laptop seems to be its outdated, crappy-ass self again
thank you matt! ((((you))))

backup everything to an external, then you don't have to worry about this kind of crap. Just wipe clean and reinstall.

nope, but when i went to bleepingcomputer.com and asked a question in their chat room, they said this particular attack is pretty insidious and harmful and that most anti-virus programs cant catch it in time...guess the fucktards who spend their time creating these things are making them smarter and smarter :bang:

There is no way PT gave your computer a virus, unless you mean an actual link on PT.

yeah...i guess i shouldnt blame PT cuz it was a link...i didnt mean to click on it but my laptop was hanging up and i was trying to click on something else and mistakenly clicked elsewhere and that was it for me...:dunno:
still, i dont see a lot of redeeming virtues over there...guess i am spoiled by this place
