*I purposely left The Grateful Dead out as I've hit my quota for listening due to the past week and a half.

Talking Heads
Grateful Dead
Pink Floyd

after that it comes down to album selection for other bands. If every AC/DC album were like Highway to Hell or Back in Black they would be on the list. If Rush hadn't gone all Journey on us after Moving Pictures they would be on the list. If GnR stayed in the Appetite for Destruction form, they'd be hard to beat. Machine Head by Deep Purple is the best heavy metal album of all time: listen to it before you disagree!

I wanted to cheat!!! I'll sign the list from Tabbles and add my faves that are missing from his. Hell, let's throw Cake in the mix too as they are super fucking duper.

Sabbath and King Crimson can get tossed in as well.

Cake is such a strange band. They have made some of my favorite albums of all time but are the super suck live

I'd add Beck and Morphine to my list.

When I saw them at Hammerstein. People we seeing Shut the Fuck Up instead of shut the fuck. the lead singer told the crowd they were assholes for getting the words wrong and left the stage for 15 minutes while the band played awkwardly. I wanted my 40 bucks back

Only band(s) constant over the years is the good ole Grateful Dead and side projects. I can't think of any other band that has always held a spot in my top 5 like the Grateful Dead has since I was about 10 years old.

Many of the bands listed in this thread and some others have occupied the 2-5 position from time to time, but nothing constant like number 1.

I'm surprised there's not more love for Derek & the Dominoes on this board. I got pretty obsessed with them there for a while.

I think I'd also maybe like to change Band of Gypsys to Jimi Hendrix projects, because Band of Gypsys was only around for a short period of time, and that would mean exclusing some sweet sweet albums like Axis Bold As Love and Electric Lady Land...
