...2 chicks kiss and make out, but if two dudes start necking in public, most people would not be interested?

Why is this double-standard socially acceptable?

depends who they are and who you ask.
for instance....Rosanne Bar and Hillary Clinton kissing = not hot

actually I don't think I need anymore examples than that one

Personally I find the leval of hotness to be dependent on the leval of passion being emitted by the two people kissing.

it's a double standard cuz most chicks don't mind girl on girl and most men don't mind girl on girl either. so you have both sexes being fine with the practice.

of women I talked with...man on man doesn't hold the same fantasy for them as girl on girl for men...so you lose a big portion of a demographic on this subject matter...ergo the disparity

Also pop culture constantly tells us homosexual acts are gross and something to be mocked. Almost any mainstream gross out comedy these days contains at least one "shocking" scene in which men inadvertently kiss or are continuously hit on by some sort of extremely unattractive man or drag queen.

For me, no matter the participants, it depends if it comes from a place of objectifying people or bearing witness to an expression of love.

Kinda what Xena said.

Dudes kissin' isn't hot for me, but if there's love evident, it makes me smile.

I've been disappointed/disturbed by how revolting I've found dudes making out to be in the past. I always kept it to myself. Kind of ashamed of it. Probably through exposure, it really doesn't bother me anymore. Whether its something innate, or some product of media/culture/upbringing I'm not sure.

What I do know, there are many straight woman who find the idea and stories about homosexual men engaging sexually very "hot".

I read an interesting treatise positing an explanation for this

Whatever makes people happy, I can turn my head it doesn't interest me. I've seen plenty of my gay men kissing and it neither turns my stomach or excites me so I look the other way. The same goes for lesbians when one or both of them are really butch.....but the hot ones and the not so hot but ones with tons of passion....that shit turns me on.
