I was actually a little concerned because my previous subscription was for a single computer (Win XP), and I wanted to set up an AV for my iMac.

ESET is an Anti-Virus (AV) software made by NOD32. It also happens to be the best Anti-Virus on the market. I've had it on my laptop -- which runs Windows XP has its Operating System (OS) -- for the past 2 years, and my membership just ended. So, I renewed my membership, and also got a copy for my iMac (running Mac OS 10.6). I was afraid it might be a hassle to have a single license for both a Mac and a PC, but it turns out it was not an issue at all.

And, if you're wondering why I would pay "big money" for a Mac Anti-Virus, it's simply because the myth of "there being no viruses for Mac" is just that, a myth. Over the last 6 months there have been several articles in tech blogs about trojans ( viruses where somebody else can use your computer remotely without your permission) being developed to target Macs specifically. Popular wisdom at the moment is saying, as time goes on and Mac OS becomes more and more popular, more viruses will be written for it.

It's partly my own bias against build-in anti-viruses, partly my hardcore tech friends' recommendation, and partly my recollection that one day somebody on a message board figured out how to embed a virus in an image. So, if you just opened a thread, and the image loaded, your computer would get infected. NOD32 was the first company to have the fix for that virus (in a matter of hours if memory serves). At that time I was still making no money at a nation-wide ice cream establishment, and stuck with AVG Free by Grisoft, but I knew that the software was inferior, and I decided that as soon as I could afford it, I'd get me some big boy pants.

As I was typing my reason for why I don't use MSE, one of the tech folks on another board just answered that that has been his go-to for years...

Oh, and as I was reading old threads about NOD32 on another board, I got another reason for your Joshie.

NOD32 doesn't burn up resources (ie make your computer run super slow because all of your processing power is going to maintain the anti-virus, and there's nothing left for streaming music, or checking out how much sweeter your life is than your friends when you're stalking their FB pages).

It's why Norton AV sucked, and why the later versions of AVG (like version 8.0 and on) sucked.

I used to do in home computer maintenance/ repair mostly for elderly and low income people so their computers were usually quite outdated. AV progs like Symantec made a lot of those computer run at slugs pace. NOD32 free was the way to go.

Oh you're computer was running so slow you couldn't play your slots game so you deactivated Symantec and got a virus. Then 500 more virus. But your up $20 fake bucks on your slots game. Oh and your gonna pay me with pea soup? sweet.
