liability insurance on each gun makes a lot of sense

and the point is that you compared a gun to a bus... but guns are way less regulated than buses, so the comparison was stupid.

Is there a 2 week waiting period to buy a bus?

Wonder what the uninsured killer adder would be for each policy?

that's in only like 5 or so states... all in the northeast. It's not Federal, but it should be.

Soooo, you've got a point in only about 10% of the country.

Well, that is the part I live in. I would have no problem with a 2 week waiting period to buy a riffle for someone with out a pistol permit. Sounds like a good start.

Two week waiting period to buy condoms. Federal mandate.

a federal background check can be done 24/7/365 and takes maybe 10 minutes. If that system is insufficient/flawed, what will an additional 2 weeks do?

I live in NY and am really only familiar with NY laws. I do however understand that they are fairly strict here relative to other states. In NY, there is a federal background check done prior to any gun purchase (excluding private sale).

Part of the 2 weeks here in CT I believe is for a background check. No idea how long it takes them. If you have a pistol permit there is no waiting period.

pretty much...

still... I lock the door behind me whenever I leave the apartment.

sure, the landlord can still get in, and anyone else who wants to kick the door in...

it makes me feel better than just leaving the door wide open.

So are we entering another period of media splash re: guns and mass killings in an attempt to push the legislation through?

I doubt it will be much of a splash... maybe just a little sprinkle. Obama's opinion on this issue is very conservative leaning so it doesn't really make a difference in terms of presidential candidates... and there is no Federal legislation that I know of that's going through because of this incident.

May see some attempts at the state level. Not gonna happen at the federal level though...
