and the point is that you compared a gun to a bus... but guns are way less regulated than buses, so the comparison was stupid.

that's in only like 5 or so states... all in the northeast. It's not Federal, but it should be.

Well, that is the part I live in. I would have no problem with a 2 week waiting period to buy a riffle for someone with out a pistol permit. Sounds like a good start.

a federal background check can be done 24/7/365 and takes maybe 10 minutes. If that system is insufficient/flawed, what will an additional 2 weeks do?

I live in NY and am really only familiar with NY laws. I do however understand that they are fairly strict here relative to other states. In NY, there is a federal background check done prior to any gun purchase (excluding private sale).

Part of the 2 weeks here in CT I believe is for a background check. No idea how long it takes them. If you have a pistol permit there is no waiting period.

I doubt it will be much of a splash... maybe just a little sprinkle. Obama's opinion on this issue is very conservative leaning so it doesn't really make a difference in terms of presidential candidates... and there is no Federal legislation that I know of that's going through because of this incident.
