While I can't be there, I hope you all have an amazing weekend!
Over the past few days, I've gotten messages from friends here asking about my "annual prank" on the boards.
Those annual pranks were usually a lot of fun, and most of those in on the joke usually had a good time with it.
Still, all good things must come to an end.
Humor is a tricky thing. What may be very funny one moment, under one set of circumstances, becomes unfunny in a different environment.
While the annual takeover of the boards was funny once, it's not very funny anymore. At least not for me.
First off, it's predictable. If you know the pie in the face is coming, you're not going to laugh as much.
Second, the prank was started at a different time. Back then, if you were at vibes, you were at vibes. You weren't on here. So having a little fun here was a way of creating an enjoyable shared experience with the folks who did not make it out to the show.
Now, in the age of smartphones and other devices that give us wireless digital communications, attendees can post live from the show. It changes the whole dynamic of the forum during this weekend, and I think it's awesome.
The last thing I would want to do is disrupt that by pulling a "prank" that stopped being funny to a lot of people a long time ago.
At any rate, my thoughts are with you this weekend, and I wish I could be there with all of you celebrating this wonderful weekend of music and friendship. Have a great time, and maybe I'll see some of you next year!
