2010 GOTV Non-Perishable Food and Personal Hygiene Product Drive
Sponsored by the Gathering of the Vibes and the Terrapin Foundation Greetings Vibe Tribe! ![]() We're excited to announce this year's Gathering of the Vibes Food Drive produced in conjunction with the Terrapin Foundation!! While the economy is starting to show signs of some recovery, there is a long way to go. Unemployment is holding at levels unseen in decades, and economists are forecasting continued struggles throughout 2010. People are hurting and they need our help! Food pantries and shelters across the country are experiencing record demand, and hundreds of families in the Bridgeport area go hungry everyday. We know you all have the love in your hearts to make a difference! What Can We Do To Help? We can build upon last year's success and make this year's GOTV Food Drive even bigger and better! Last year the Vibe Tribe donated a GOTV record 5,500 lbs. of non-perishable food and hygiene products, with the food vendors chipping in an additional 1,250 lbs. of food. Our goal this year is 10,000 lbs. of food, but we want to try for ONE POUND PER PERSON attending the festival! We can do it, but we need your full support to make it happen. Drop-Off Locations The primary food drive booth will be located in between the main concert field and Green Vibes stage entrances in between the food court and Clean Vibes Trading Post. This will be a staffed table. It will be open from 10:30am to 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday and 10:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday. In order for donors to collect prizes, donations must be dropped off at the primary food drive booth. Assistance via golf cart will be available for those that have large donations. Those with large donations are asked to stop by the food drive booth first to gain that assistance. For those wishing to drop off their donations and not collect any prize, there will be unstaffed collection bins at the main gate and VIP gate upon entrance into the festival. Since these bins will be unstaffed, prizes will not be available for donations made at these locations. In addition to the staffed and unstaffed collection stations, there will be a roaming food drive golf cart collecting donations throughout the weekend. This golf cart will be noted clearly with a sign indicating it is for the food drive. Those that donate to the roaming golf cart will receive prize raffle tickets for assorted prizes or poster redemption tickets if their donation qualifies for the food drive poster prize. Donations Being Accepted We are accepting clean, un-opened, retail or wholesale purchased non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products. We cannot accept perishable food or personally produced and packaged foods. We are not accepting clothing at this time, but we recommend donating any clothing to a local Bridgeport shelter to charity if possible. Cash donations will be accepted as well, and receipts can be provided upon request. Here are some examples of acceptable high demand non-perishable items:

The Gathering of the Vibes has a no glass policy, and it is applicable to all donations as well. If someone has a donation in a glass container, they can drop it off in the unstaffed collection bins at the main gate or VIP gate. Available Prizes & Incentives We are pleased to offer some great incentives to those who chip in: (1) Those who donate at least 25 individual items will receive a limited addition GOTV Food Drive poster while supplies last. See below for details. Please Note: Ramen or similar “quick noodle” products will be “discounted” as part of this prize due to the weight and cost of these products. Five (5) packets of Ramen or other “quick noodle” products will equal one (1) item. (2) The largest single donation (by weight) from this year will receive a pair of regular camping tickets to the 2011 GOTV (please note that this does not include VIP or RV passes). (3) The 2nd through 10th largest single donations (by weight) from this year will receive a GOTV merchandise pack that could include a t-shirt, poster and other assorted GOTV merchandise (items to be announced soon!). The results of this year’s food drive poster contest are in! While Laura Dowling’s poster collected more votes than Rebecca Turcio’s poster, we’re going to have to declare a tie. Unfortunately, Laura’s piece bears a noticeable resemblance to some of Stanley Mouse’s and Alton Kelley’s “Skull and Roses” imagery. While we know this was accidental and Laura certainly didn’t copy anything, we need to abide by the contest rules regarding use of copyrighted images (whether it was intended or not). As a result, Rebecca’s artwork will be the one used for this year’s Food Drive poster. Since we really do appreciate the effort put forth by both artists, both Laura and Rebecca will receive the first place prize of daily access to the VIP tent at the Vibes! The three posters we received were all awesome and we really appreciate the artists who put their time and creativity into this project. We totally appreciate all of you, the Vibe Tribe, for your continuing support of the Gathering of the Vibes Food Drive and look forward to another blockbuster year!! Let’s show how big our hearts are and make some huge donations to the Bridgeport-area food banks that so desperately need our help. ![]() Artist: Rebecca Turcio Benefiting Organizations We will once again be donating the items collected to the Bridgeport Department of Veterans Affairs Food Pantry and the Bridgeport Department on Aging Food Pantry. Both of these food pantries are located within the City of Bridgeport and serve area residents. We will also be giving a portion of the items collected this year to the Connecticut Food Bank to spread throughout the Greater Bridgeport area. Below are links to the websites for all three organizations, and information on these organizations will be available at the primary food drive booth. http://www.bridgeportct.gov/Veterans...nsAffairs.aspx http://www.bridgeportct.gov/DeptonAg...ptonAging.aspx http://www.ctfoodbank.org Remember, Bridgeport is welcoming the Vibe Tribe back to Seaside Park, so let's give back to those who have given to us and show this community how much we appreciate its hospitality. There may be other prizes and incentives to be announced as we get closer to the festival, so stay tuned and start stocking up with non-perishables and personal hygiene products! Even ask your friends, family and coworkers to help! If you have any questions about the food drive or poster contest, please feel free to contact one of the following people: Kyle Murphy, Food Drive Co-Coordinator – Kyle@terrapinfoundation.org Marc Drouin, Food Drive Co-Coordinator – Marc@terrapinfoundation.org Thanks everyone!!!!! ![]() |

It's nice to hear that my poster from last year is still kicking around... And it's cooler still that someone who runs food drives on a regular basis has more to give.
