My BFF Amy has been working for a while on hand carving a stamp for our wedding invitations (she makes cards as a hobby, and is really good at them), and this weekend I visited her in Maryland and we finally sat down and made them all!

It was really fun- first we stamped these cards with white ink, then we put embossing powder on them and I heated the cards with this dryer thing so the embossing powder would melt and emboss (it's really cool to watch, at one point it reaches a tipping point and goes from a powder to this gold stuff). Then I inked in all the suns, and Amy inked the hills and the sky (we made 3 different stencils out of plastic so that we could ink them). The inside has this green paper with the invitation details on it in dark brown ink. I attached all the green papers to the invitations with photo-mounting stickers.

So the invitations are done- all that is left is putting the invites in the envelopes and sticking on the return address labels I just made (they are already addressed and stamped and have direction sheets in them)- should be able to finish that tonight and send them out tomorrow maybe. Amy also gave me this sealing wax stuff and a cool stamp that looks like a house, so I'm going to experiment with that later and see how that works, may or may not use it.

Anyway, here is a picture of an invitation! Each one is slightly different, but this is generally what they look like:

Rel - I love those invites! Such a nice organic feel

Wende - I love yours too - very sweet :)

I am ordering in the next couple of days...it's a must! I thought about Evites but was smacked down on that one by numerous peeps. Oops!

Make your own. Mine took a half hour and cost 17 bucks

heh, well once we sat down and stopped chatting and actually did it, these took around 2 hours to make- but my friend spent a really long time beforehand handcarving the stamp thing that we used for all the gold parts.

But yay I really love them! I made a few extra, and I think I'm going to frame one and save another one for our eventual wedding album..

I love them, guys! Great job! I want to make my invitations!!! I have visions of sand and little shells (course the little shells will probably break in the mail! )

My brother and his ex-fiance made theirs, and they put a little starfish on the front. That didn't break, so maybe I would be lucky.

But seriously, you guys both did a great job!!! This is so exciting!!!!!!

Georgi, if your list isn't so large that the shipping cost would be a deal-breaker, why not do message in a bottle-type invites? then your shells wouldn't get squished! :D

I still like the plantable invitation idea as well.

yeah, the packaging isn't exactly eco-friendly, is it?

if you used recycled glass bottles with cork stoppers, and plantable paper as the insert though...

no, then it would get REALLY expensive... :bang:

hmmm...still thinking
