WTF?!
They purport to have these great tampons that "absorb" and they "expand" and they have these crazy options like incredible strings etc etc etc...
Is there a tampon on the market where I won't have to constantly be stuffing my pants with "pantyliners"???
Am I the only one who've found themselves somewhere where they have tampons, but no pantyliners, and end up resorting to stuffing their panties with wads of toilet paper to ensure their allegedly impenatrable tampons don't allow leakage through their pants?!
Fucking bloody goddamn motherfucking periods.
Don't these companies have female executives who could spearhead this missing technology?!!!
I should not have to diaper myself as an adult!!

ever hear of the keeper?
it's a reusable tampon alternative...
http://www.keeper.com/
How Often Should I Empty My Keeper or Moon Cup?
Your Keeper or Moon Cup holds one full ounce of menstrual fluid. Most women produce only 2 to 4 ounces during their entire periods. So, emptying the cup a few times each day is usually sufficient. In a month or two, you will become familiar with your own menstrual flow pattern, and will know when to empty it.

I have never been able to wear tampons.
WAY too uncomfortable for I.
So, I've always had to stick to the route of feeling like I'm wearing a damn diaper when my aunt comes to town.

I tried one of those catching things a few..actually, several...years ago and found it perpetually uncomfortable....perhaps I should try again.

Someone compared a whole bunch of different brands on this site. Maybe this will help if you decide to buy one.

i have been using Instead for nearly 3 years now and i love it.
it's like The Keeper except you can fool around with it in. for those (like me) who find sex to be good for cramps/mood swings, i highly recommend it. (available at CVS, Walgreens, etc)
unlike The Keeper it is not reuseable.

Maybe you're not using the right absorbancy? I've heard you can use two tampons at a time - I've never tried.

I swear by Playtex Gentle Glide SUPER absorbency. I've never had leakage with those. Before we went on vacation, I actually bought store-brand super absorbency thinking I could save an extra $4 (since they were $3 something and Playtex were like, 7 something)...well, never again will I be stingy when it comes to tampons. I had leakage like, 4 times. Not pleased. :ravn:
:funny1::lol::lmao::rotf::clapping:
laughing my ass off over here...
i also use ob... mainly because i can't stand applicators, especially plastic ones. why the hell should i put that much plastic in a landfill when i am perfectly capable of washing my hands? i find that sometimes they leak, but meh. its better than pads.

The super-duper o.b. tampons sold stateside are pretty f'in big (about the circumfrence of a nickel, I think). Are the super tampons sold in Canada smaller?

Sarah: I haven't bought tampons in the states in years...so I'm not sure if there's a difference.
cj: That's why I use ob as well...applicator, shmapplicator (say that 10x fast).

on day two i need backup (pad/liner) for whatever i use if i don't want to run to the bathroom every half hour or so, and i don't even try to use Instead on that day, it's just way too messy to deal with. the rest of the time i'm good with just Instead or a tampon. but Julia, even the super duper absorbency ones aren't enough for that one day. you aren't alone, and i am fairly confident it has nothing at all to do with the size of my vag

Good to know I'm not alone... :)
And, yeah, I was sorta kidding about that last part...I mean, sure, me & my vagina have encountered some giant schlongs in our day, but nothing compared to spewing forth a fetus...hmm..there was that *one* guy, in Philly, in '98...um..I mean...
Never mind.

thanks little frog. i also told my doc that i would love to sit down and give him a detailed list of all my side effects. i finally found someone else online that has shooting pains in her breasts. i think that was the final straw for me, i just broke down bawling and felt so much less alone.

exactly. i let it go for a loooooooooooong time and kept doing self exams but neither i nor mike ever felt anything. so eventually i called my dr and he examined me, felt nothing but sent me for the mammogram. nothing on that and i have am u/s scheduled for 4/6 but will hopefully have my iud out by then and not need the appt. or hopefully i will have my insurance set by then. papers are all filled out, signed, going out tomorrow. so then i can go but not have to pay for it.

you can have tiny cysts in your breasts that fill with fluid during your period that won't show up on a mammogram. I had a benign tumor (that started as a fluid filled cyst) removed from my right breat when I was 32. I've had mammograms twice a year since then and I know I have a tiny cyst on the outside of my right breast that flares up during my period, but it never shows up on a mammogram. I know it's there because I get an ultra-sound of my breasts about every two years and that's where the cysts show up. The benign tumor showed up much more clearly on an ultra-sound than a mammogram as well. My breasts are very dense (lucky me !).

See, I feel the same about something you plug yourself up with. GET IT OUT OF THERE, pronto.
It's almost like sticking something in your pee hole for pee.
Blech, get it out.
Tampons are just so wrong in my eyes.
What are these cups? Is it something that goes inside you?
I don't want anything, except my man, inside me anymore.
I'll stick with the good old fashioned rag.:funny1:
Rionach aka Spec K

blech...can't stand the rag - just nasty (and stinky).
I use Lil-lets, the UK version of OB, I guess - I find absolutely no difference between OBs and Lil-lets.
I can't use those tampons that are long, but not wide. Useless. And applicators are stupid as well.

I found a few very painful lumps years ago and PANICKED. I went to the doctor who felt them and said, "Oh, you have fibrocystic breast disease. Nothing to worry about. They'll show up in mammograms but they're not going to hurt you." Phew.
I found that laying off the caffeine helps with this pain A LOT! They virtually went away when I stopped having caffeine everyday.

Yes Wende, these cups go inside of you. If you look above, there are a few links to different menstrual cups and the Instead disposable cup.
I too hate tampons (bleached fibers inside my body...and the pain of removal when my cycle is almost over turn me off) but I also hate wearing pads.
I use the Mia Cup...it's laytex, it's purple and I don't even feel it when it's inside of me. You can easily sterilize it at the end of each cycle and it lasts for years.
This month I did have a day where I did not insert it right and had a little leakage. Fortunately I noticed this in time...but otherwise, I don't think I'll ever go back to using anything disposable.
