We are near Northvale, NJ. Where do you go hiking? We like to hike in Mahwah - the reservation on Rte 202, near Ramapo College. In summer you can swim there too. It's a dog friendly place as well.

Cool! Let's start a list of places to hike and we'll meet up at one of them once a week or once a month and go hiking. This will be fun!

The one for Wachung says the trails are very badly marked. As long as we don't get lost in the woods, I'm game! It's great to have all this new hiking info!!!
Sat afternoons and Sundays are good for me too.
How many people are interested so far?
So far looks like
4-- including us. I know my bf will be joining so 5

Hey a nice hiking group. Not too big to have to always be counting your peeps. What is our first hike going to be?
SureUrRight the nynjtc site has a daily hiking suggestion and you can view them by difficulty levels. Gotta love that.
It would be fun to meet on Saturday and go hiking! But where are the pines???

I am in Camden County but, I can be anywherein the Pines in 45 minutes. There are so many easy flat trails, it,s nice for bad knees and beer bellies like mine. Also, anyone intrested in a boardie canoe trip? Wading River or BastoRiver would be a blast!

George we've been talking about exploring Batsto this spring, too. i grew up minutes from there but it's been a LONG time since i've done more than drive through. i will post when plans firm up.
and i kayak those rivers often, along with the winding river and lake oswego/oswego river, for the short window where warm weather allows and they don't dry up, at least. i will post about that too! :)

Can we rent a canoe there? Sounds like a blast!
JerseyThug: kayaking is a lot of fun too!!
Sounds like a roadtrip!! For this or for a hike. I'm definitely down for a roadtrip to the river!! :clapping:

Bel Haven canoe and kayak is a great place to rent and they provide transportation to and from river in price. I sold my kayak last year, but I would absolutly be up for a trip!

First GOTV Boardie hike:
This Saturday 1:30 at Van Saun Park Zoo
(we will meet at the entrance by the zoo, and where the parking lot is)
Van Saun Park Zoo
216 Forest Avenue
Paramus, NJ 07652
(201) 262-3771
The zoo is free until May when they start charging so we may as well check it out. We can go hiking in the larger park outside the zoo after.
Directions:
Take Rt 287 North - Get off on Exit 59 (Route 208/Franklin Lakes).
Route 208 turns into Rt 4 East, and you will pass the mall on the right hand side.
Ahead you will see the Forest Ave exit.
Get off at this exit and follow ramp to eventually make a right onto Forest Ave.
You will pass 2 lights - Make a right onto the Van Saun Park. Follow signs for the zoo.
Park in Parking Lot 1 (closest to the train, zoo, etc.)
See you there!:jamguy:

Also found a cool new site that lists parks. It's where I got the driving directions from. There are farms and museums on the list too. It's a moms/kids list so iggie the playground info! : )
