Hi,
Does anyone have good tips for washing broccoli? I hate when I think I washed it enough but it's got a funky taste to it. Any suggestions?

I suppose that works. ;)
My mother does not buy organic...she buys 'least expensive'. I made a broccoli salad for her the other day and the broccoli just had that nasty after taste to it. That just ruins it for me.
Years ago I tried that vegetable wash stuff. That just gave my veggies an odd flavor. Hahaha....
organic still has dirt and bugs (disclaimer: maybe, not always ;) )
maybe cut it up first and then let it soak in water for a little bit?

organic dirt and bugs contain good enzymes, don't have a bad aftertastes and most likely will not poison you!

i cut the head into fleurettes and put them into a container with a sealable lid.
add vegi-wash and water. after a few minutes of soaking and a few light shakes, drain out the wash. (if you drain into a glass, you'll see all the crap that washed off)
2 or 3 soaks/rinses of cold water to remove the vegi-wash and you're good to go.

We were told to wash our broccoli from the garden in white vinegar. I thought that it would make it taste funky... but it didn't. After you soak the broccoli in vinegar, you rinse it it cold water.

I've done that before...saw little white bugs coming out of it. Eeew.

I'm not sure what they were. I only noticed a few....it was from a friend's garden. I figured it was normal...bugs, gardens, dirt. I wasn't scurd.

I did buy organic broccoli yesterday....it makes sense that it won't have a funky, chemical taste. So your post did inspire me.

Every time I see this thread title, I hear the "Chopping Broccoli" song from SNL playing in my head.
