So I got an old Samick acoustic... it's not the greatest guitar, but I've always liked the tone... anyway, a few of the frets have worn down over years of use, and I'm wondering how easy it is to replace the frets yourself, or how to do so, and if it's even worth doing myself (cost of tools that may be needed vs letting a shop do it) or at all (vs buying a new guitar)
Thoughts & suggestions appreciated.

 thanks. Samick is a company out of indonesia that makes guitars, and i think skiis. (dont laugh, mitsubishi makes canned tuna) I went to the local GC here and they quoted me more than the guitar was worth for them to do it.
So eventually i'll have to get a new one.

I have a Samick accoustic. It's a Greg Bennett design, made of ash. Looks awesome and has a nice tone. Wish the pickup was a little nicer, but it works fine and has the tuner and EQ built in. They're pretty good for the money.

I replaced a few frets on my old acoustic (a Korean made no-name brand guitar.) It was incredibly easy to do. You just have to get the correct diameter fret wire and cut it to the desired length, as it comes in spools or 2 foot lengths or you can also purchase pre-cut fret wire (I just searched e-bay and came up 52 results.) Gently pry the old frets out of the neck, and tap the newly cut wire into place. Getting the new wire in place can be a little tedious and may take a little patience to get it to custom fit your guitar.
I would not recommend trying this out on an expensive guitar but on a cheapo it's really worth doing it yourself.

Besides, if you "f" it up, you can go out and find another guitar...My old gibson (1964 vintage, acoustic) has been completely refretted once...with "the Cadillac" of fret wire, so it can actually be 'dressed' a couple of times...
Watch yourself...:funny1:...people who start repairing their own guitars sometime end up MAKING guitars... :clapping:

Be sure when tapping then in you use a soft rubber mallet I have a rawhide mallet I use that works stupendously

Samick was my first bass guitar (playing for over 20 years). If I remember correctly, their parent company was ovation/gibson. Anyway, it was an inexpensive bass that played fantastic. I put some Bartolini pickups in it and the thing really sang. Sometimes you get lucky with production-line instruments.
