I'm thinking of getting a BabyHawk. Has anyone used one of these? Did you like it?

well.... I make mei tais so I can safely say I love them. Baby hawks are pretty, but I believe they had a "recall" not too long ago.

I love my mei tai... can't live without it!

they make star wars sheets. I make my mei tais from reclaimed fabric-mostly sheets, so it is pretty doable to make a star wars mei tai.:Phishfolk:

Joia-- could I buy one from you? they say they hold up to 35 lbs. Is this true? Cause Benji is 28 lbs now.

I think they look really cool, but I don't think Gabe would sit still long enough for proper usage.. Maybe with my next kiddo..

Although you can wear it on your back, so maybe he would dig that.. hmmm

Beany, you'll have to let me know how Benji does with one.. I am intrigued. Joia, does Yesmeen like it? Did you use one with Rio when she was 2?

Yesmeen doesn't like to be carried as much as Rio did, but I still use it with her. She recently fell asleep on my back at the zoo in 85° heat. Rio would still go in it if I let her. I used it for a long long time with Rio... well into my pregnancy with Yesmeen. I actually thought I'd have to wear them both! it's definitely my favorite carrier.

I went to dinner with a friend of mine who has a 2 year old. She showed up in a mei ti carrier. I can't believe I didn't have one all this time! She took her on the subway with it. I'm telling you, bus and subway with toddler and stroller is the worst. She said the MTC worked great, it was so pretty and looked so comfy. I'm def. going to get one. :)

Oh yeah, I've used it instead of a stroller sooooooo many times! when I went to Disney without my husband, with both kids, I used it. I keep it wrapped around my waist, so I can get Yesmeen in and out of it very quickly.

hmmm.. I am just thinking how easy it would be when I go to Market Square day downtown or other places where my stroller is truly a pain.. Especially if he could get in and out of it easily..

Joia, what do you charge?

I like what this chick did with the interchangeable panel.

way more sewing than I'd probably ever do, but probably not hard if you tend to stitch a lot.

they look very similar to mine, but my straps run the entire length of the body, instead of going off at an angle. Rio was so fat, I didn't trust the integrity of the stitching to have the straps be a separate piece of fabric. basically I make a quilt with so with the stitching, the entire mei tai is one piece. I make two faces, then I put the padding in, which is fleece, not quilt batting, sew the two faces together, turn the whole thing right side out and sew up the bottom. the waist strap is a total of 2 yards including the body and the shoulder straps are also two yards each, including the body.

I like your design better; I trust straps that run the whole side way more than ones that are just attached (I'm looking at it like I would a piece of camping equipment or other luggage; I trust you to have the baby part covered). Is this the basic model you make? -- I realize your version is more rugged.

Yes, I actually made that one first and used the schematics to make the "more rugged" one.

I used the fleece one with Rio and Yesmeen until they were too heavy for it, then I made the quilty one when Rio was too heavy for the fleece one.

I can still carry Rio on my back with it and she weighs about 45 lbs!
