Iraqi police shoot dead four US soldiers: ministry
Feb 24 10:37 AM US/Eastern
Iraqi policemen shot dead four US soldiers and their local interpreter in the main northern city of Mosul on Tuesday, an interior ministry official said.
"Four US soldiers and their Iraqi interpreter were killed by two Iraqi policemen who opened fire at them in the Dawasa district of (central) Mosul and then fled," the official told AFP, declining to be named.
The incident took place during a US army visit to the Mosul headquarters of the Iraqi police in charge of protecting the city's bridges, police said. The bullet-riddled body of the interpreter was taken to the local mortuary.
It was the third such fatal shooting involving US soldiers in just over a year in Mosul, one of the country's most restive cities.
On November 12, an Iraqi soldier shot dead two US soldiers in the city before being shot dead himself, but US and Iraqi officials differed sharply on what actually happened.
Iraqi officials said the soldier opened fire after an altercation with the Americans during a joint patrol in the city, but the US military insisted it was an unprovoked shooting inside an Iraqi army compound.
Mohammed al-Askari, Iraq's defence ministry spokesman, said at the time that the shooting took place during a joint patrol to inspect security procedures in Mosul, which the US army says is Al-Qaeda's last urban bastion in Iraq.
An official in the Iraqi interior ministry said "a US soldier slapped an Iraqi soldier during the patrol."
A similar incident took place in Mosul in January 2007 when an Iraqi soldier opened fire on American troops during the erection of a combat outpost in the city, killing two US soldiers, according to Iraqi officials.
US and Iraqi forces operate together throughout the country, and the United States has long said that the training of Iraqi troops and police is a central part of its military strategy

If you f up on patrol you not only in danger your self but the whole squad. Even if he did get slapped there is zero excuse for shooting someone because you were reprimanded on patrol.

i don't like this shooting either but you can't strike another soldier, not even during basic training. rank is irrelevant. whatever the Iraqi did on patrol, everyone came out alright so no harm, no foul. count your blessings and move on. if he's a screw, up get rid of him but slapping a man, especially from this region, is an extreme insult. the Americans need to remember where they are and that they're (apparently) unfamiliar with the customs of the region. you've got to show respect to the citizens there, after all we're there to protect them. i'm sure this is just another clear sign of the tension in Iraq and that it's past time to leave.

Slapping and other corporal punishment is a traditional part of military discipline in Arab nations. I know this from personal experience. A military superior slapping a military junior would not be perceived as an extreme insult among Iraqis. If the American was perceived as an equal or a junior, you would be correct. I wonder what the details are?

unt'll years later after their tour do the people who were soldiers start to get a clue that they were never important.
I work in a building that has a sizable veterans clinic and I've spoken to a few of them and I have found that from the American official view regardless of the bullshit "support our troops" lies and empty propaganda spewed out by the media and citizen groups that US soldiers are after they retire from service treated like trash to be disposed by any possible manner either by leaving them littered on the street or medicated into zombies.
My only complaint is they take forever to get on and off an elevator. But what do they care? they aint and have no reason to be in no rat race of any kind so I cant really blame them for taking whatever time they want to do whatever they want to do. Plus, its a clinic and allot of them are far from in good health.
I've seen that video before the real one without the edit and it's a fake :shades:

I don't know the specifics on what happened so I won't speculate. I will say that if you in danger your squad members life on patrol and make it back it is a lot more then no harm no foul. Hazing is a valuable tool, and when used correctly can make lessons last a lifetime.

I haven't seen the real video, but it became common practice for people to photo shop or edit lots of pictures that people posted on the internet. For example the Marine who posed with the child and cardboard sign that said all I went to Iraq and all I got was this crappy photo or something, got turned into My parents got killed and all I got was this photo.

16 more months...
Just because he pledged he'd do it in 16 months doesn't mean he's going to stand by his word and actually do it in 16 months.
A slightly more accurate version of the event:
BAGHDAD, Feb. 24 -- Two Iraqi policemen opened fired on four American soldiers and two Iraqi interpreters inside a police station in the northern city of Mosul on Tuesday, the third deadly attack on U.S. troops in two weeks in the still-volatile provinces of Nineveh and Diyala.
One American soldier and one interpreter were killed, the U.S. military said. The three other soldiers and second interpreter were wounded. An Iraqi police captain at the scene was slightly wounded, police officials said. The assailants escaped.
The attack appeared well planned. After firing their weapons, the policemen ran outside the station and up the stairs of a nearby bridge. "They got into a car that was waiting for them and escaped," Jubouri said.
"Al-Qaeda has infiltrated the police forces in Mosul," said an Interior Ministry official in Baghdad, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

When I was in Ramadi there was one AK that had been confiscated and reissued around three times. Also Glock pistols that were issued to IP's were found after engagements with "Insurgents".
This is why people like the Solider shown in the "this is why Iraq hates us" thread are furious. You train and equip them to turn around and get shot by them. None the less that guy didn't seem properly trained or in the right mind set to be training IP's.
