I, um, had a cup of coffee with Splenda (yick) then I had a small glass of diet pepsi, then I found these sugar free dove chocolates, thinking i'm doing ok. Can ya tell i'm a sugar-holic

anyway, I am in pain, doubled over with cramps. Shitting all over the place (not really, sorry for the graphics)

I never knew fake sweeteners were soooo nasty for you. I'm done with the sweets man. Tomorrow is a new day right?

I think i'm going to be ok on this diet though.

20 lbs by my wedding. No problem.RIiiiiiight

You can do it!!!

I have seen many people have good success with The South Beach, as long as they were sticking to the plan.

You can do it, Wende!! I'm doing South Beach Phase I, too (last year before I had knee surgery I lost 40lbs in 5 months)

This is what I ate on 1/23 (yesterday)

breakfast
1 egg + 1 egg white omelette with 1 TSP bleu cheese and 2 crmbled slices of turkey bacon. 2 cups of coffee, 1 cup low sodium V8 Juice

Snack:

individual serving bag of pistachios

Lunch:
big bed of romaine and spinach, topped with 1 can of tuna mixed with 1 tsp light miracle whip and a chopped cucumber

snack:
part skim string cheese

Dinner:
grilled garlic boneless pork chop, 1/4 steamed cabbage with salt and pepper

snack:
bowl of sugar free orange jell-o

Wende
02-24-2009, 07:34 AM
I wasn't sure about the V8 juice, it has quite an amount of sugars per serving.

Hey, Ravn, did you read the book? If so, I have a question for ya. I am still reading it, i'm about 1/2 way through, but I don't understand one thing.

Nevrmore

I've read it, it's floating around somewhere in my room, whatcha trying to understand?

Wende

Milk and cheese.

Wende
02-24-2009, 08:20 AM
oh, and obviously, v8 JUICE. I didn't think it was aloud. I can make lots of stuff if it is aloud. OOOOOOooo, soup...

Good Luck, please stay far away from anything/everything sugar free...so bad for your insides (splenda is known to cause depression too...my mom ended up being able to get of her psychotic meds(it made her psychotic for real) once she stopped using it.

I really advocate for weight watchers, I could never, would never want to live a low carb lifestyle forever...and if you end up going back to 'normal' you gain your weight back.

Now I also gained 25 lbs back over 5 years of not doing weight watchers but 15 of those 25 were over the past year of dealing with my mom's death, having poor eating habits, and having NO TIME to go to the gym.

I'm back at the gym somewhat regularly...not as much as I'd like to be, but still not bad. I need to get the eating back undercontrol, but I'm sure that will follow shortly...sorry for hyjacking your thread about south beach

I know tatum has done this with success.

Nevrmore
02-24-2009, 08:59 AM
skim milk

part skim cheeses

Kraft makes a 2% cheese that is good

I like strong cheeses like bleu and feta, because you get a lot of taste for a little sprinkle.

Nevrmore
02-24-2009, 09:01 AM
also

turkey italian sausage, cooked and drained

chop up a head of cabbage into bite sized pieces, saute with the drained sausage and a cut up onion, add V8 juice, bring to a boil, turn down, let simmer for 20 minutes or until cabbage is tender.

Nommy soup!

'I love South Beach (when I'm not lacking in willpower like I am as of late) but I lost 30lbs in like 4 months.
the first 15 came off in a month and a half not even...the rest was slower, but as in any other diet you tend to start to plateau as you make this a lifestyle change.
Good luck

yes you can do 20lbs by your wedding, just dont cheat and no booze or sugar for the first 2 weeks and you'll watch the weight melt off you

georgi

Rich and I attempted this for 2 weeks. He did really well and I wanted to kill myself. :funny1:

Good thing sweets & carbs don't bother him. I'm addicted to them.

Weight watchers is the way I will end up going when I have more time. For me, it's ths SUGAR, everything else is fine. I eat very very well balanced when it comes to meat, cheese, veggies and fruit...but for now, it's the sugar. I quit smoking, I've put on 10 pounds from that. I have gained a total of 20 out of the 25 that I lost 8 years ago (after Miranda was born) AND that includes quitting smoking. NOt so bad. I don't mind being a big girl, but I refuse to be huge

I did really well the first time I did south beach, my eating habits were so bad at that time, so the detox really really kick started my body. I've tried to go back onto phase 1 a few times since and haven't really had the same success because I already watch my carb/sugar intake.

V8 juice might be a no no if you are doing a strict phase 1. it has carrots in it.. Anything with sugar alcohol can make you have stomach issues.. Most of the sugar free candies have sugar alcohol, so maybe only a piece or two.. (although technically they are no no's on strict phase 1 as well).. I found the blue bunny sugar free fudgesicles did the trick on my chocolate desires.. They were soooo good..

South Beach will definitely show you a HUGE impact fast.. Just stick with it and change your habits when you finish phase 1, or it will creep back on.

Personally, I tried SB again last year and I quit by week 2. I decided to go on weight watchers and lost 20lbs easily. Not in 2 weeks, it took a little longer, but I have kept it off.. now I am heading for my next 20 lbs and will follow more of a weight watcher program. SB worked for me to change my habits, but I can't limit all carbs for 2 weeks anymore. I think my metabolism changed after having Gabe and last time I tried SB, I just didn't feel good at all. I had felt so good the first time, so I knew that this diet was no longer the right one for me..

Good luck Wende, you are going to be gorgeous on your wedding day!! And Ravn, excellent results!!

yay south beach! my parents have done it w/ great success.

so, my dad is hypoglycemic and can't have too much sugar. he used to drink a glass of OJ every morning until he realized just HOW MUCH sugar there is in each serving. he switched to V8 and has been doing much better. so, even if there is some sugar in the juice, it's much way less than straight fruit juice.

he says since he started drinking V8, he doesn't have as many sugar crashes during the day and has more energy. so far, so good! :)

I have to finish this book.

Wende
02-25-2009, 05:42 PM
Finished the book. It sucked. THe ending confused me more than anything. It just ended. Can I have sugar free candy? Can I drink milk, it didn't say anything about any of it. UGH.

Anyway, check it out. I am 6.5 pounds lighter today @ 4:30pm than I was on Sunday @ 4:30 pm. Crazy. I must be doing something right. I feel amazing. NO side effects what-so-ever! Only thing is, I have a monster headache in which I contribute to my time of month.

How is everyone else doing?

p.s. Hi Randy

Hi Wende. I'm on day 5 and doing well...easier today than Monday, which was tough. I'm 3 lbs. down. I wanna lose 20 lbs. by your wedding too. :)

There is a list in the book for what you can eat on Phase 1. You can have some dairy. We're eating lowfat string cheese, feta cheese, cheddar cheese. I am putting nonfat 1/2 and 1/2 in my coffee and I'm eating some plain nonfat yogurt.
I've putting one packet of splenda in my coffee and it tastes horrible. I'm gonna try to reduce that tomorrow and get it out of there completely. If that doesn't work for me, I think I'll just wean off the coffee.
We also have a 40 pack of sugarfree fudgsicles in the freezer. Mik likes those. Yes, you can do sugarfree candy but IMO, it's easier just to not get the whole sugarfit started.
I have been drinking V8 juice. <hits head> I forgot about the carrot part in there. I'll save it for week 3.

Like Georgi, I'm hooked on sugar and carbs. From what I read online, I'm not the only carb-loving fat vegetarian. Just slapping myself into some better habits is going to be good for me.

skim milk is ok.. moderation, of course, but that is allowed..

good job ladies!! Reading your posts I am tempted to try again, but I know it will not be as effective and that will just make me crazy.. I guess I should get back outside and walk a little more.. tee hee

So, I had sugarfree jello and WHIPPED CREAM tonight. It was to die for. It was advised by a doctor that I volunteer with at my childrens school. So little carbs and sugars in 2 TBS that you wouldn't notice and it sure did make me feel pretty good.

Nevrmore
02-25-2009, 10:00 PM
I love love love sugar free jell-o

I'm cheating tonight and having buffalo chicken dip with tostitos. Actually, the dip is ok in moderation, the chips aren't but I'm sick and can't taste anything, and I gag on food I can't taste, so I'm eating it to get better!!! (I can rationalize anything LOL)

Wende
02-27-2009, 09:15 AM
I FEEL FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is amazing. Carbs and sugars have sucked the life right out of me. Although, I canNOT wait to eat some fruit again. But to hell with pizza and subs and potatoes. I honestly think I can do this. ALthough, the beer/alchohol thing might be tough in the summertime. But for now, I haven't drinken an alchoholic beverage in a couple months.
I quit smoking.....
I freaking rock!!

Go me, go me, go me....

And seriously...I don't think if I was on South Beach that I would last at a Chinese buffet. I'd be like, Rich!!!!!!!!!...what's that over there (and point), and then when he turned his head to look, I'd shove 4 chicken fingers in my mouth and swallow. :lmao:

Wende
02-27-2009, 05:53 PM

I spoke to Mik a little bit ago and he ate chinese today...including the rice...but said he only ate 1/2 of what he usually eats.

I had to go to an afterwork farewell thing for a co-worker at a bar/restaurant. I ordered a diet soda and waited until I got home to eat. Whew...I survived that temptation.

Wende
02-27-2009, 09:15 PM
Not so good tonight. I just caved. HUGELY. First I found these milk chocolate chocolate chips. I had about 25 of them. And then I had 3 baby asprin (I know, bad) and then a hotball. I suck. This sucks. IT's Friday, and this is what I do on Fridays. :(

I am about to make banana bread and say EFF IT!! But I won't. Talk to me. :(

woah, woah, woah... it's ok! I have a cheat night every week or so and it really doesn't effect things much. I know a lot of people that watch their diet on a regular basis and allow themselves a night off here and there.

Good greif, give your self a break!:V: You're doing great! :Phishfolk::Phishfolk::Phishfolk:

i don't get the asprin thing either....i get headaches from chocolate.

This is the major reason I can't do south beach...i love crap too much. Points will let you do that...I know you plan on going on it after the wedding, but I think you can loose a lot on points if you do it pretty strict and work out.

7 days as of around 11am today. I've lost 8 lbs. I think what's really helping me most is that my husband is doing this with me.
Wende, just hop back aboard. Don't let little slips make you feel like you've failed.

Wende
02-28-2009, 09:56 AM
I"m good. It's just because I didn't get to go to my chinese buffet last night and I was extremely board.

You guys don't understand. I'm a SUGAR JUNKIE. This is the best diet for me for now. I need to rid myself of my addiction. I have done so much research and asking doctors (one of my perks of being at a fancy school) and this is the plan for ME! Right at this moment in my life! It may not be good for you, but for me, it is. For now.

Just like the cigarettes, COLD TURKEY is the only way to go, for me. :)

In reference to the baby asprin, I used to have a strange addiction to them as I was growing up. The taste. I eat them like candy. It's a weird fetish of mine, so shoot me.

Wende
02-28-2009, 10:14 AM
8 Pounds Ker? Oh that is so fantastic. Isn't it amazing. You are doing so good. I am still 6 down. Although i'm at day 6. YAY for us. No more chocolate chips.

Keep it up Kerri, Mik!! :)

Wende
03-06-2009, 08:32 AM
It's super easy for me to lose weight. IT always has been. I think it's because I eat soooo much white sugar that the slightest change, really makes a difference. Plus, we were eating ENTIRE meals at 10:30 at night. HUGE!

I can't wait to see where I am in a month. I am now back (actually a pound less) to my pre quitting cigarettes, weight.

Yea, fruit. I had a kiwi the other day and it was amazing. I am actually going to go get some strawberries today. Yummy. I don't miss my bread or pasta or potatoes at all. Popcorn though? Yes. and brownies.

Kerri makes the best brownies.

wabbit
03-06-2009, 11:11 AM
Berries are really, really good fruits to eat if you are following the phase 2 way of life.. I found some sugar free brownies (I think they are by Tasty Cake) and I would take one of those, chop it up into bites and throw it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm up. Then throw some chopped up strawberries on top and then a dollup or two of Cool Whip (or fresh whipped cream, just watch the sugar).. It was sooo wonderful and really low sugar and not too bad fat wise.. Totally killed my sweet tooth craving

Wende
03-06-2009, 11:37 AM
SOunds amazing. Unfortunately, I"m finding out that artificial sweeteners do not go well with my stomach/colon. It's severe.

wabbit
03-06-2009, 11:50 AM
oooooo... sugar alcohols can do nasty things, that is true... well, if you absolutely need a chocolate fix, I suggest the No Pudge brownies.. They are only 2 ww points, so they are happily pretty ok in diet language.. http://www.nopudge.com/

Wende
03-17-2009, 04:53 PM
So, this is getting to be quite pricey now that my entire family is carb free.

Good for them though, my kids.... they don't miss it. It's only here in the house. They eat what they want outside the house.

it's soooo expensive to eat a non-carb diet, isn't it?? it sucks that the best foods for you are the most expensive. i'm pretty disgusted with the entire healthy food industry for making healthy eating so far out of the price range of ordinary families, and even more, families that need it most!

anyway .. how are you doing?? update?

It's not really the healthy food industry that is skewing the prices. It's the US governement subsidizing meat, corn and dairy farmers. If they subsidized organic vegetable farmers you would see the prices of meat, corn and dairy rise and the vegetables drop.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail the SB thread!!! :)

It's a big task. :undecided:
Starts with supporting local and not commercial growers...and with writing your elected officials and educating people about it! :)

you are right about making a life long change.

the way you were eating is the reason you are not happy with your body now. nothing magical as happened to the original way of eating, it will make you gain weight EVERYTIME you live that way .. everytime.

the new way will make you healthy, the old way will make you fat .. everytime .. :)

I am getting that. I know what I want to be and what I will be.

I still have some youth left. I don't want to hide behind this icky fat anymore!!!

I feel sooo good when I eat properly I don't know why I keep falling back into bad habits. The time will surely come though. I'm hoping it's now. I can feel it.
Plus, Todd is doing it. He's so freaking strong, when he does something, HE FREAKING DOES IT!! So, I have to to dammit!!!

Wende this is why i'm such an advocate for ww. It helps you readjust your way of eating sot hat you get all the foods you love(in mycase need  )and still loose weight.

We fall back into old habits becuase they are easy and comfortable.

2 months ago i was emotionally eating. I haven't done that in years. Totally aware that I was not hungry at all, but WANTED a bowl of pasta, or a grilled cheese.

It was all linked to an emotinal aniversary, that passed, and I'm working on getting back on track.

I find making a changes gradually they tend to stick longer. Like maybe giving up all 'white wheat products' and only eating whole wheat....

Wende
03-18-2009, 02:25 PM
That is what SOuth beach does. You go through a 14 day *fast* which rids you of your cravings for bad carbs, and re introduces carbs slowly. Good carbs. It teaches you what you really need.

For some people, especially myself, white flour and sugar are like an addiction, it's ALL or nothing. I can live my life just fine without that crap. My body doesn't need it. NOt one bit!

I have been on Weight watchers off and on for 10 years. I get tired of thinking about food all the time. Although, it's a natural way of thinking. IT's healthy and a normal way of life.
This is what I need. The bad carbs are my problem. I need to fix it. UGH. I wish we didn't.

I went to the doctor today for a physical. When I was there in Jan. my blood pressure was on the low end of high and a blood test with my oncologist in Dec. didn't reveal good things about my cholesterol levels.

Without me saying anything, he commented on the weight loss.
Today my overall cholesterol was 138, which is awesome and there was a great balance of the good/bad levels. My blood pressure was 98 over 60. So, I am already healthier and need to continue to lose weight for my joints and exercise more for my endurance.

Feeling real good about all of this today.

So glad Todd is gonna give it a whirl with you Wende. It helped me that Mik did this with me and even if he doesn't follow through completely, he'll eat what I make and support me...he gave me a good kick-start.

Todd is feeling FABULOUS. That is soooo AMAZING about your levels and all that jazz.

I work hot lunch with a cardioligists wife and she say's that people don't realize the affect the bad carbs actually have on their blood work until they give them up and see for themselves. That is really what sold me on this diet. The science behind it.

I'm sooo happy for you Ker, you were looking pretty darn good the other day.. Keep it up, me too!
