lately, he's just been really defiant and lying.
he just came in my room about 5 minutes ago while I was folding clothes and said "I'm hungry" I told him to just wait, because dinner was in 15 minutes. He leaves, the next thing I hear is Karys saying "I want a buna, too" I go out, there's Aidan eating a banana. I said "where did you get that banana?" and Mike said "I gave it to him, he said you said he could have it"
OMG, I am so tempted to make him go to bed RIGHT THE HELL NOW!!!!!
:joker:
I have no doubt you will find a way, to have his lying bite him in the ass.
tell him to go stand in the corner for lying.
i don't put up with that shit. (my Aidan is doing that too)

now that I'm calm and rational
We had a talk about not lying or sneaking, and I took away his computer privaliges until next Sunday.
i took my Aidan's TV privileges away for one night a week or two ago and he FLIPPED OUT.
i'm keeping that one in my back pocket...

did he survive, once he calmed down?
oh please, he's fine.
it was definitely the most horrible thing in the world then.

i told my kids, if you ever want me to believe anything you say in the future you will never lie to me. once you've started to lie to me, i can no longer trust you. your choice
exactly. i've even been dramatic about something i know he was being truthful about - just to prove that point.

Must be the age. Kaela has pulled asking one of us something she gets a NO to and go tell the other and say we said yes lately. Grrrr. We stick together though and she gets to go to her room or go to bed early..which REALLY makes her flp out. She is testing her boundaries majorly right now.

My parents always got us on this one. If we asked Dad, he said "Have you asked your mother?" and if we asked Mom we got the reverse.
I know we'll be using that one in a few years.

if i remember right, that's normal.
isn't boundary testing fun?!!

I'd go back and forth, then say it was okay with one if okay with the other, volley on that until my bases were covered, and I had the answer I wanted from both.
i like "the boy who cried wolf" story. i think it's a great learning tool to teach the importance of telling the truth.
i think kids react better to disappointment than anger, just my opinion, ymmv ;)

Summer, you hit the nail on the head there. All my parents had to say was that we had disappointed them and we were devastated.. They could be mad at us all day long, that never phased us (it was actually kind of funny to see my mom mad), but to be a disappointment, that really hurt..
and what does ymmv mean??

one time, a couple years ago, i was really mad at forest and he just stood there and watched me for awhile. then he came over (he was already 6 foot tall), put his arm around my shoulder, patted me on the head and said, "you're so cute when you're mad."

Did that take the anger right out of your sail? :funny1:
(Picturing his innocent yet slightly impish smile upon saying that.)
yes it did! it was immediate
