North Dakota's House of Representatives has passed a bill effectively outlawing abortion (http://www.kxmc.com/t/abortion).
The House voted 51-41 this afternoon to declare that a fertilized egg has all the rights of any person.
That means a fetus could not be legally aborted without the procedure being considered murder.
Minot (http://www.kxmc.com/t/minot-nd) Republican Dan Ruby has sponsored other bills banning abortion in previous legislative sessions - all of which failed.
He also sponsored today's bill and says it is compatable with Roe versus Wade (http://www.kxmc.com/t/roe-vs.-wade) - the Supreme Court (http://www.kxmc.com/t/supreme-court) decision which legalized abortion.
(Rep. Dan Ruby, -R- Minot) "This is the exact language that's required by Roe vs. Wade (http://www.kxmc.com/t/roe-vs.-wade). It stipulated that before a challenge can be made, we have to identify when life begins, and that's what this does." VO CONTINUES But Minot Democrat Kari Conrad says the bill will land North Dakota in court, trying to defend the constitutionality of a law that goes against the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
(Rep. Kari Conrad, -D- Minot) "People who presented this bill, were very clear that they intended to challenge Roe versus Wade. So they intend to put the state of North Dakota into court defending Roe vs. Wade"
The bill now goes to the North Dakota Senate (http://www.kxmc.com/t/north-dakota-senate).

Sorry! I hate politics, but this really disturbed me.
Actually, a pretty clever maneuver. It will now require pro-abortionists to prove that a fetrilized egg is not really a human being.

This is their most important problem in North Dakota?
This is their most important problem in North Dakota?
You're right. They should be pursuing more important stuff.....like spending $650 Million in Federal tax dollars on digital cable boxes for people tto stupid or too cheap to locate and purchase their own at the exhorbitant cost of $45.

millions of people find this issue rather important.
if it was legislation to secure abortion rights, would you say that?
wasn't one of obama's first bills to lift the ban on overseas abortion funding? his first day in office, really? was this our "most important problem?"
and i'm sure N.D. can handle working on several issues at once

How does banning abortion help the economy?
so your argument is that this (very first) bill was signed to "help the economy?"
i'm sure it'll do wonders for the U.S. economy

Well, that is the big problem our nation is trying to face right now, I thought... not abortion rights. Seems like they're a little behind over there.
Seems like this is "anti-stimulus" to me. Just what we DON'T need is more unwanted mouths to feed.

so, wait, N.D. should have something better to debate than the protection of human life, but it is justified for obama to make his first priority the funding of abortion overseas (while in the midst of two wars and an impending economic depression  )
whatever you say.

I would have to say that you're not trying to protect human life at all, but instead trying to impose your personal religious beliefs upon others.
How is it a human life when it has no heart and no brain? It's not. It's just a cell. It has just as much potential to be dead as it does to be a human life.
I don't think the unborn deserve any rights. Giving rights to a person who doesn't even exist yet is worse than giving rights to an illegal immigrant.
If a person's own parents don't want them, I don't either. Someone has to support them.

This is religion and politics. I think if thoughtful discussion on the subject is possible at all, it would be here. I gave my honest opinion. It's well thought out and factual. Now, I'll listen to yours.

I never got into this discussion with you before. I never even really read your posts regarding it. I guess I'll just assume that you have only the same thing to say about it as the rest of the pro-lifers which is all just based on personal religious beliefs.
That's cool. It is what it is.

honestly, my personal economy sucks at the moment... otherwise I'd probably be out spending money.
I've been laid off for a couple months. I start back to work again Monday. Things will get better.
