Found myself in Philly last October. Being the history nerd that I am, I found plenty of history to take pictures of. I ain't no pro, but figured I'd share what I got. To me, it's simply breathtaking to actually stand, sit, walk and think on the same ground our Founding Fathers did ... just blows my mind. Anyway ...

Liberty Bell (some crazy Euro kept hounding me to take pictures of him next to the bell ... I think he was hitting on me  )

East Wing of Independence Hall. George Washington actually sat in that chair!

Congress Hall in Independence Hall ... James Madison stood here and argued his case.

Inside Carpenter's Hall, where the First Continental Congress met.

Outside of Carpenter's Hall ... I can stare at that symmetry all day long. Beautiful.

The Philadelphia Exchange

Ben Franklin's grave

The Benjamin Ring House, where George Washington had his headquarters for the Battle at Brandywine in 1777. (My tour guide told me he played minor league baseball with Tommy Lasorda!)

The memorial arch at Valley Forge.

The arch was built with help from the Freemasons. Conspiracy? Hmmmm.

George Washington's headquarters at Valley Forge. (When I talked with the park ranger about the construction and renovation going on behind the house, he told me how workers played a joke on history profs by throwing chicken bones into the dirt that was excavated. Good stuff. )

George Washington's hand touched the rail on this staircase. And so did mine!

nice!
I've lived here for 7 years and haven't been to any of those except for Valley Forge, which is a beautiful park.

we're planning on going downtown to all the historical stuff this year though.

and :spank: for not telling me you were in town.

nice!! :jam: i did the historical philly thing when i was there for dead tour in '94. took tons of pics and wrote everything out on the back of them, so when i passed them around, everyone would know the whole story and i wouldn't have to repeat myself. of course, when i put them into a photo album, i had to write it all out again! :)

Sorry Elayne.

I also ate lunch at City Tavern and had a turkey *** pie based on Martha Washington's recipe and washed it down with an ale based on the recipe Thomas Jefferson used to make his own ale. Good stuff!

That's a lot of writing, nancykind!

And mule, that's pretty cool about those pics.
