Why can't they sit there and hold still? Why must they squirm and make those pitiful cries?

We did both Henri & Tuna's nails last night. Henri cried like a baby the whole time. I had to hold her down with a towel while Rich did them. We were very careful to not do it too close. Tuna sat there like a champ and was all, "that's it?".

We gave them a treat of wetfood after. :)

I do my cats' nails while they sleep. I can normally get a paw done before they wake and make a fuss. Sometimes they're sleepy enough that they'll let me do a second paw before getting fidgety. Then I just wait an hour and they'll probably be asleep again and I can finish

I can usually get at least a few of Finch's nails when she's on my lap and relaxed. Only the front paws though. We just have the vet do Atticus's since he puts up such a fight. We're there every 6 months (or more) for him anyway.

One of my cats doesn't care, you can do anything to him. The other one will bite and freak out. She only scratches her post though so it doesn't matter.

i have never trimmed my cat's nails. omg, i can't even imagine! you people are brave!!!

red would probably not care. luna would not even let me do one, tiger would hurt me!

when i had my iguana, jefe, i used to trim her nails in the bathtub. sometimes she was really good and other times she wanted nothing to do with me. she was freaking, draw blood sharp so i had to trim her. i still have scars...

I'm with sums, the kitties who live with me have never had their nails trimmed.

Yeah, I can't handle them crying from being restrained.

since my cats are indoor/outdoor i also feel like they maybe need their claws outside. not that they do much besides lie on the back deck and sleep :funny1:

actually tiger caught his 1st furry creature yesterday, i think it was a vole. which reminds me, i have to go look for it in the backyard when i get home :crook:

Our kitten scratched the living hell out of the vets hand when she was trimming him. Like spurting blood.

I gave him the high five. Didn't care for the bitch and switched Vets after. :funny1:

:lmao:

Tiger and Cassady will just sort of sit in my lap, belly up and i can trim them easily. Zevon's getting much better and i just sort of lean on/over him to do the front nails. he thinks he's trapped and doesn't move. the back nails i do the same way Sean does - - as he's trying to sleep i'll do a few at a time and eventually he just lets me finish up so he can take his damn nap already!

i used to trim Tigger's nails too. even tho she was an outdoor kitty, they'd get reallllllllly long. whenever she clicked her way across the hard wood floors, i knew it was time. :)

when i took my tiger in to get him de-balled, he scratched the crap out of me. the vet asked if i wanted him trimmed while he was out (only way they could have done it, if you ask me) and i said "yes". he's gotten much better since then and is finally mellowing out!

Neither one of them scratch anything but the scratching pads/posts, but Finch is a kneader so we have to trim hers..I have little scratches up and down my thighs from her lovins. :funny1: one time I was at the dr for something and they asked me what the scratches were (I think they thought I was cutting myself). Atticus's just get really long and since he's a total klutz he sometimes has to dig them in to get up on the furniture.

Must be the 70s era wall to wall carpeting keeps the nail noise down. :funny1:

Zoey puts up quite a fight, but I manage to get them done relatively easily. Lyla (all 5 lbs of her, yes she is a RUNT) is such a squirmer that I do what I can and then try to finish at another time!:funny1:

that's funny elayne! when i saw my new holistic doctor for the 1st time he asked me what all the scars on my arms were. i told him i used to have an iguana. he said, "yeah, i was wondering because people who cut themselves usually aren't ambidextrous!"

For those of you with cats who go outdoors, this practice is self serving only. Your cat needs his/her defenses intact. Would you like to hunt for food or face warlike others of your kind with a dull knife? This could cost you a meal and maybe your life. For those of you with indoor cats do what you must to save the furniture. We as humans can change with time to become better people but our beloved pets cannot and should not. In altering our beloved pets natural defense's to please our needs is wrong if we choose to let them venture outdoors. I live in the Bangor area of Maine (in the country) and see other cats as well as coyote's and foxes daily. Cute animals right? Wrong they love cat meat as well as chicken, we also have a couple of fishercats on the lake whose presence sends my boys running for home if they catch their scent in time. Cats are cute fuzzy and warm, but first and formost they are predators, its one of the qaulities that make up their nature that we find so appealing. Like I said for indoors cats in rural or urban setting where they are inside to preserve their lives, do what you must. Unlike humans who admire each others grooming choices with with admiration, its usually the cat with trimmed or no claws who pulls an all-nighter that lasts forever. Love and respect to all the tribe!:jump:

Our kitties are indoor kitties. They don't go outside. Their nails get very long and very sharp quick, so trimming them is a must. I would like to protect my skin as well as my furniture and new couches.

so i was super hot and sticky when i finally got home last night and immediately peeled off all my work clothes. it was past time for Zevon's meds though, so i bravely picked him up naked and brought him into the bathroom, saying "no claws, no claws, no claws". he was perfect and nothing touched me except the pads of his feet. how good is that!!?

oy. Kisa and Japser both HATE the nail clipping. So, we very rarely do it. Our vet does it every time they go, though. She's brave {{{{Dr. Dring}}}}}
