long story short: Yesmeen is perfectly healthy thanks to vitamin c, garlic ear drops and tiny drops of umka, however, she has night terrors. :(

Long story:
there is a super bug going around Rio's school which is wiping out entire families, infecting the mommies with bronchitis or pneumonia (depending on how long they wait for treatment)

On Sunday, after boozing it up at a baby shower, I had a fever and the beginnings of an upper respiratory infection. I jacked myself up on vitamin c and over dosed the kids with it too... on wednesday, Rio claimed she was too sick for school so I kept her home, jacked her up with vitamin c gave her some echinichea throat coat tea, and 1/2 doses of umka, by 11:30 (when school is over) she said she felt better and wanted to go to school late.

wednesday night, Yesmeen spiked a 103° fever. I lowered it slowly with a warm bath and avoided Motrin until 6:30 am. Her fever came back, but around 101°, but she also complained about her ears. I gave her garlic ear drops and two drops of umka every time I dosed myself and Rio with the umka. I couldn't get an appointment with her Dr until today to check her ears.

so... last night she woke up screaming, like I don't even know... she sometimes wakes confused, saying things like, "no booby mommy!" while reaching for the breast, or hitting me and crying... or just waking confused and trying to wander out of bed...

we went to the DR today to have her ears checked. Her ears, nose, throat, everything is perfectly clear. Letting her Fever (basically) run it's course cooked the virus and with all the herbs and C. we got her healthy fast!

turns out, though, that she has night terrors and the only thing to do is let her grow out of it?

From what I know about night terrors, there isn't much you can do.

They say NOT to interact with them when they're in the throws of it - that it makes it worse. But obviously you need to keep them safe.

Both my girls went through nightmares around age 2. They are both sleep talkers & sleep walkers, so it could've been night terrors, but I don't think so. Jess (almost 2 1/2) still wakes on occasion screaming, etc. Catie took about 6 months to grow out of it

But I don't think mine had night terrors. That can last years unfortunately. Good luck:heart:

Jude has them occasionally and it's tough to watch. I either just let him go though it (making sure he can't hurt himself) or else I gently touch him to reassure him that everything is ok. Sometimes that works--it all depends on how deeply asleep he is or hpw bad the dream is.

I'm sorry you guys went through this. It sucks

Do you let her watch tv? My oldest son used to have night terrors all the time. We shut the tv off a little over a year ago and they have stopped, completely.

her Dr said the same thing, but she's just not into TV. at all.

we're going to try the waking every two hour thing. from what I'm reading it's like a tick, they get stuck in the deep sleep and can't get out of it. If you wake them before the episode, it doesn't occur. The literature the Dr sent home with us says if you do the frequent waking consecutively for 7 days the tick resets and they are "cured"

we'll see.

Wow, that's very interesting. Makes total sense. We are such amazing beings aren't we?

Sleep world is such a unique place we go to.

how often has she woke screaming?

Joia

just a few times. Usually she wakes in my arms, completely confused, looks right through me, gets agitated, then calms down once she realizes who I am... then once she's asleep after that "episode" I can lay her down for the night...

If I lay her down for the night before that "episode", she wakes completely frantic, confused, screaming, crawling... it takes several minutes to calm her back down... so without even realizing it, I've already been dealing with it in our own way.

the 2am screaming has only occurred a couple of times, but I have completely jumped out of my skin. She screamed like someone was pealing flesh off of her or something....:undecided:

Oh my. Awww. My son would start yelling like he was fighting. And then he would make growling noises and grunts. Like he is really upset. Yelling "STOP IT, NO, GRRRRRRRRRRR I SAID NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Frightening.

she's a little sick so she's been sleeping different. I'll have to try the waking when she's back to normal.

I have had night terrors for almost 20 years now.
They have gotten better as I have gotten older.
Most of the time I have no idea what is going on.
Being in a loving relationship has definitely helped but nothing has cured them completely.

well, still sucking. We're ok with the first one, but the second one is the one we really need to get rid of.

Last night she popped up and started screaming for her Daddy... she scared the shit out of me. It took a few minutes to calm hr down.

Maybe she's too warm. Don't you all share a bed? Maybe she needs her own.... Just a suggestion. Not meaning it in a bad way. :)

no, I get it. :)
No, she wears short PJs and doesn't use the blanket. When she's cold, she snuggles up to me.

When she wakes with her terrors and I'm not there they are way worse which is why I wait until after her first before I lay her down in bed.
