on christmas day olga asked "don't you get presents for your cats??" and i said "no. and i might feel bad about that if they weren't going crazy over a wadded up piece of paper and a little ball of tinfoil last night!" :)
when Zevon was about 5, maybe 6 months old, i came home from work and he had sorted all the toys into quite logical piles. all the plastic strips from milk jugs were in one pile, all toys that made a noise were in another pile whether it be a bell or a squeak or whatever, all the string/rope "chase-y" toys were in another location, all catnip stuffed toys had their own pile, unless they made a noise of course, and finally were non-catnip no-sound toys like the furry mice and some balls and things. it was one of the cutest/funniest things i'd ever had a cat do and i wish SO much that i had taken a picture of all the little piles. he never did it again.
Cassady has a little blue fuzzy ball that used to have blue sparkly threads all through it. it's her FAVORITE. it lost the sparkles long ago but she knows that it's called "sparkle ball". i find it stuffed under things every 2-4 months, her face just lights up when i give it back to her, she has it for a day or two tops then i notice it's gone again. 2-4 months later i'll find it again, underneath something or another. so she gets to play with her absolute favorite toy in the whole wide world for a total of about 8 days a year!
they have a mouse, from my sister, that looks disconcertingly very much like a real dead mouse. it moves all over the house and showed up in the bathroom downstairs one day, about two weeks ago. it didn't move again but then this morning when i got up it's upstairs, in my bedroom. but - i have absolutely nooooooooooo idea who likes it so much because to this day i have never once seen a single one of them play with it. ever! :funny1:
