on christmas day olga asked "don't you get presents for your cats??" and i said "no. and i might feel bad about that if they weren't going crazy over a wadded up piece of paper and a little ball of tinfoil last night!" :)

when Zevon was about 5, maybe 6 months old, i came home from work and he had sorted all the toys into quite logical piles. all the plastic strips from milk jugs were in one pile, all toys that made a noise were in another pile whether it be a bell or a squeak or whatever, all the string/rope "chase-y" toys were in another location, all catnip stuffed toys had their own pile, unless they made a noise of course, and finally were non-catnip no-sound toys like the furry mice and some balls and things. it was one of the cutest/funniest things i'd ever had a cat do and i wish SO much that i had taken a picture of all the little piles. he never did it again.

Cassady has a little blue fuzzy ball that used to have blue sparkly threads all through it. it's her FAVORITE. it lost the sparkles long ago but she knows that it's called "sparkle ball". i find it stuffed under things every 2-4 months, her face just lights up when i give it back to her, she has it for a day or two tops then i notice it's gone again. 2-4 months later i'll find it again, underneath something or another. so she gets to play with her absolute favorite toy in the whole wide world for a total of about 8 days a year!

they have a mouse, from my sister, that looks disconcertingly very much like a real dead mouse. it moves all over the house and showed up in the bathroom downstairs one day, about two weeks ago. it didn't move again but then this morning when i got up it's upstairs, in my bedroom. but - i have absolutely nooooooooooo idea who likes it so much because to this day i have never once seen a single one of them play with it. ever! :funny1:

wow re: the sorting!

Sirius has about 5 ladybugs (because they are his favorite). Over the winter, he takes them outside and they get buried in layers of snow and ice...in the spring, out come the ladybugs, one by one as the snow and ice melt. I can't find any right now so they must all be out there. I have looked for another when shopping but haven't found any. I always buy one when I see one.

i love the "piles" story! that is so amazingly cute :)

we got the cats a laser pointer toy for christmas. forest and tiger play with it all the time. lawrence was looking at them one day and asked, "did you get that thing for the cat? or the boy?!"

but tiger's favorite thing is still a piece of string. red loves the little mice and luna just looks at both of them like they're nuts. she's a little too old and round to be batting things around :funny1:

Nancy...Tuna has the same little sparkle balls. HE LOVES THEM!!! I always find the sparkle strands everywhere (EVERYWHERE!), and when I move the couches out to sweep, I find like, 3 of them underneath. haha He goes nuts for them! He also has this little foam green ball that he absolutely goes nuts for, and his little face lights up when I find that one, too!

Kitties are silly. :funny1:

Tramp goes nuts for his bones. We have to take them away from him sometimes to give him a break, because he'd chew all day and all night.

Frasier likes to steal cat toys. I got Tuna this little lobster, and Frasier likes to sit with it.

Henri doesn't particularly care for toys, but since we moved into the new house, she seems to like to bat some of Tuna's things around. :)

Another thing Tuna goes nuts for is the laser pointer! :lmao: Hilarious!

everywhere! i pull alot of the strands out, the bigger balls are worse than hers was in its day. Zevon likes the big ones - especially the green one - but Cassady just waits until i find hers. i wonder if that's her game - thinking she's winning all the time that it's lost! :D

freedom doesn't play with toys, she prefers to obsessively lick anything that will stay still. her favorite things to lick are dog and cat ears. yes, they all allow her to do this. cleanest ears at the vet! ew. the vet says, "how do you get their ears so clean?" um, yeah...do you really want to know?

anya likes to carry things around in her mouth and has to hurry up and go get a stuffed animal when it's time to go out, but drops it at the door (most of the time). she's always the last one out because of this and it's really annoying. she loves stuffed animals, but if it squeaks, i guess taking the squeaky thing out must satisfy her urge to "kill" it, because she always does this. if there are any rawhides to chew, she hoards them all. she once swallowed a cat toy whole which cost about $800 at the e-vet to wait for her to poop it out. she likes to retrieve things too, to a point and is very relaxed about it. ya know how most dogs run to get something? a lot of times she'll just saunter.

indie plays with anything that she doesn't get told not to. she's a big fan of retrieving and tugging. she gets most of her exercise chasing anya around the yard. anya will pick up a stick and tease indie with it, and the chase ensues. really a great system for tiring them out.

the cats play too, but they can't have little cat toys anymore due to the risk factor. we have feather things on a stick and catnip, which riles them up.

I found Tuna's green foam ball last night under the couch...he went nuts for it, and then came and sat by me on the couch. He must have lost it somewhere and gave up. I'm guessing it went under the door into the linen closet.
