It's not right to take the number out of context.

The 2004 US greeting card spending was $7.5 Billion.

$150 Mil for inauguration doesn't seem so much.

It's about 50 cents per American.

It's valuable in life to celebrate the important.

It's a great day when power changes hands without bloodshed.

Would $1 million be too much? Would $40,000?

We could feed some families for $40,000

Why have any celebration at all?

I think it's TOTALLY worth it. Especially this
one, where it's such a huge step to putting our
racial problems behind us.

I'm not sure why people are complaining the money spent for the inauguration. Celebrations should happen at any cost. They bring spirit and life back to people. Not to mention all the good economic spending that goes directly to the people locally who worked at these events. All the goods and services that were paid for helped stimulate an economy that is almost dead.

Think about how much the locals prosper when a tour hits town. All the food and merchandise are gone baby gone :)

I wonder how many million people watched it in these United States and around the world. My guess is the cost is pennies per person.. maybe as high as a quarter.

I am glad people feel its ok to spend that kind of money. I only brought it up in P&R forum because the last inauguration where Bush spent 40 million, people freaked out and the media went nuts. How could he spend that much tax payers dollars when we have so many internal issues that the money could be spent on. Ahh, how things change (or should I call it the double standard).

Break down the costs all you want. I just think it sends a horrible message with real Americans being in the shape they're in today and the pressures they face day to day. The amount spent for such extravagancy, along with the amounts spent on each party's convention and the campaign is absolutely disgusting.

Calling out double standards is something I can get next to.

I only posted because I've heard this complaint a number of different places. Just needed to put my .02 out into the ideaosphere.

How much money was made by businesses in the DC area over the last few days?

Really, I'd have to see the break down of how it was spent to comment.

Millions of Americans wanted this. Probably millions attended.

I have to think the security and logistics of this were very expensive.

On the other hand if the money was mostly spent on extravagances then I may agree.

Lifting the American spirit, as this inauguration actually did do, is worth quite a few dollars... and it was fitty cents per American

America's Hungry Children Rises 50 Percent in 2007

WASHINGTON — Some 691,000 children went hungry in the U.S. sometime in 2007, while close to one in eight Americans struggled to feed themselves adequately even before this year's sharp economic downtown, the Agriculture Department reported Monday.
