My husband and I have started eating seaweed due to our love of miso soup! I found a supplier out of Steuben Maine who is not only a farmer and harvester but a gem of a person as well. I'd like to introduce you all to him and seaweeds! Please visit his site www.theseaweedman.com

Larch Hanson needs to maintain a thousand friends in order to sustain his lifes work.

Check it out!!

Seaweed is not cheap....well I guess it depends on how far a pound goes ???

How do you prepare this seaweed ?

yea, it's not cheap... 3 pounds dried = 30 pounds wet. an average family of seaweed eaters will consume this in 6 months to a year.

Larch includes some recipes - i made a cucumber salad yesterday with alaria seaweed, cukes, peppers, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and lemon juice. so tasty! i plan on using it in soups and there's recipes to just roast in the oven below 200 degrees to eat them as chips! most call to rehydrate but some to roast and add to just about anything - vegs, rice, soup, on popcorn (gonna have this tonight)

That sounds interesting. I like stuff raw, I'm not much of a vegetable eater....an average family of seaweed eaters....that sounds funny

You can smoke it ??? !!!!! :funny:

I can't stand spinach or cabbage when it's cooked but I'll eat any leafy green in a salad and I reaaly like coleslaw...depending on the type :)

As far as more woody vegetables, you really have to doctor them up to get me to try it.

sea vegetables are also high in iodine which is essential to good thyroid function. women over 40 should esp add sea veggies to their diets

i just had some wakame/cucumber salad from next door at the health food store/cafe. that stuff is yummy!

I  sea vegetables... Dulse is awesome added to soup upon serving, but it is much too delicate to be added during cooking.

Really interesting site, I'll be revisiting it.

Think I'll go make me a wakame salad now - thanks for the sea vegetable suggestion!

mmmm...added to homemade lentil soup - WOW!

kramer, i've had those before - i'm thinking of making my own with agave nectar.

baked some dulse, nori and kelp at 200 degrees for a while, it's better than chips!

Seaweed is huge in Ireland. They sell Dillisk at small sidewalk kiosks in the summer (along with Periwinkles). A lot of spas in the country specialize in seaweed baths. AlgAran Company has a lot of nice seaweed products - including shampoos and soaps. I get my Dulse, Sea Spaghetti and Kombu from them. They also do an olive oil infused with seaweed.
