Over $150 million of tax payer dollars were spenty today plus the huge private money raised. Bush spent about $42 million in2001 and holy hell was raised about that money, how dare he spend that much. Now, in this time of economic troubles (doom and gloom according to Obama), they spend that much?

The left is so concerned about the environment. Global warming is going to wipe out the planet. We must stop using so much oil and drive small cars. Yet, 600 + private jets flew to Washington for todays inauguration. 200+ more than Bush's inauguration in 2001. On top of that, people freaked out when the auto industry execs flew to Washington, how dare they. What a dirty, carbon footprint nightmare inauguration this was.

I hear you on both points. I was def. pro democrat vs another rebublican.
Not sure how much change obama is going to bring.
It would have been a monumental event without all bells and whistles.
Can't really complain about people whom flew to it...I guess they could have 'plane pooled' depending on where they are in the world.
How much of the money was used for security? I bet this year both the leaving and entering presidents would need extra security...

The Bush inauguration didn't have 2 million people attending.

it is excessive I agree
My only complaint is that Dead obviously aren't getting paid enough for their gig in it. I would've rathered the tax payers pony up more dough for them, so that that they didn't charge so much for the show I'm seeing in April:V:

i'd rather have paid for the innagural events of obama than the war in iraq. so i'm ok with it. i'm sure the innaugural events caused a lot less stress on the environment as well, so i didn't really give it a second thought. i guess it depends on what your priorities are.

Man - you're just looking for any reason to complain about Obama before he's had a chance to do anything yet.
Pace yourself. It's going to be a VERY long 4 yrs for you :joker:

no, I did not start this to complain about Obama. I started it to show examples of the double standards the left uses. 4 years ago, $40 million was over the top accoring to folks and the media, now its fine (it was a historic day and I am glad they went overboard, the country needed it). We have to worry about the environment, yet so many people flew in private jets (bad for auto execs, but ok for them, I need to drive a smaller car to save the planet yet it is ok for the left to jetset in private planes). The new head of the IRS (he will be) is a tax cheat. But people make mistakes, its not big deal. If that were a Republican trying to get confirmed, all hell would break loose.

You clearly missed the point of that argument.

ok, the car execs were a bad example. But for people worried about the global warming hysteria, 600 private jets looks bad and sets a bad example. Unless it is the old "do as I say, not as I do".
