View Full Version : Bye-Bye Cyst.... Surgery time

Ok, I have been dealing with this for awhile.
Now I am getting scared!

A few months ago, I developed a lump on my right breast (near the nipple..ouch) it was nothing at first, no discoloring, no pain, then all of a sudden one day.....OUCH!!!

My boob hurt more then anything, I couldn't wear my seat belt, had a hard time with everything, couldn't sleep. So, I broke down and went to the doctors.

Found out if was a cyst, in a VERY AWFUL place!! She cut me open, drained the cyst, put me on some meds and gave me a few months to mend. Went back for a follow up, I knew it was still there, I could feel it (thank god, no pain) Now, I have no choice, I am going in for surgery on Feb 4th.
I am such a baby! I DON'T WANNA GO!!! *whine*

This is a bitch of a cyst, I was told I just have some bad luck! Grrrrr
It formed on the side of my breast, wrapped itself around a milk line, and attached itself to back of my nipple.
I will be completely out for the surgery, she told me she would give me an hour of peace before weeks of torture!!! TORTURE?!?!?!?!? Now I really don't want to go!!!'

I won't be able to breast feed from that breast again, if I have more children. Here is the worst part!!!!! Because of where it is, I stand to lose the skin on my nipple...ahhhhhhhhh, no!!!! It can take a few weeks for it to "grow back", and if I don't touch it, I should have a normal looking nipple again.

The closer and closer this gets, the more and more I want to run away!!!!!

Anyone have an boobie advice? Have a nasty cyst?? Lose nipple skin??

try to remember that it could always be worse...you're not losing your whole boobie! Its going to be uncomfortable and painful but you will survive this.slightly tender for the rest of the time.
ingesting red meat and soy products enflames my cysts (breast and ovarian) so i'd suggest staying away from them prior to surgery and afterwards as well.

thank you Summer!

Spiffy, I agree....it could be much worse, and I am glad I am only dealing with a cyst and nothing worse!
Good to know about the red meat and soy, I will def. take a break from both. I don't eat a lot of red meat now, so it shouldn't be too hard for me.

I also hated that she finished our convo with, even though we are doing surgery, please know it is VERY common for them to come back in the same spot!! UGH!!

if you're very scared i would go get a second opinion. maybe there are other alternatives

I had 2 other doctors look at it as well, I wanted to be really sure this is what was needed. They both referred me to a surgeon.
I really like this woman, she is very caring and understanding. She gets my humor too, so when I crack my nervous jokes, she laughs at me

I dunno, I just really like my boobies the way they are :)

 we'll pray for your boobies then ..

you should ask her about reconstructive surgery if in fact your boobies are affected negatively by this surgery. body image is much more important to us than we like to admit sometimes.

Thank so much everyone! You guys are the best!

I am trying to stay calm, I did find out that one of my best friends is having surgery that day too...she is at 11am, I am 12:30, so I will get to spend recovery with her!
KindSisterKathy is sweet enough to bring me and she promised to sit by me all day  she has seen me at my worse, brave girl

Thank you Susan for the offer, I think with Kathy taking me and Thatcher hanging with the little guy I should be good. I am putting on my tough face :)

I had surgery for that thing years ago - although my re-occuring lump was just above and to the right of my nipple. It is scarey, but it wasn't as bad as I expected - my fear and anxiety were worse than the actual surgery itself. I choose to stay awake for the surgery - got numbed up and had liquid Valium in my IV.

I ended up with a scar (bigger than I expected) which was bumpy and red and it bothered me at first. I learned to live with it and accept it as a unique part of myself. Lovers I have had have always been intrigued by it, not scared by it or grossed out. In time, the scar has faded and flattened out - it's barely noticable now.

A tip: if you do end up with a bumpy scar, rub Vitamin E on it and kind of flatten it while you rub the Vit. E in. It really makes a difference!

Good luck, and don't fret.

Well, it's tomorrow...I have butterflies.
I am waiting for the hospital to call with my check in time.

We need an update - how did it go?

RedSquirrel
02-05-2009, 09:42 PM
It went pretty good actually. I was able to stay awake for the most part. That eased my mind a lot. The operating room was kinda scary, I got nervous once they wheeled me in, but 2 seconds after the meds kicked in, I was golden! :)

I am in minimum pain, very tolerable. I haven't had to take any pain pills since I've been home. I've had a 5 pound bag of sugar resting on my chest since I got home, that is so the swelling stays down.

I am bandaged up pretty good, once they went in, they found the cyst to be tangled up bad, so they removed my milk lines and had to do a "scrape" of the inside of the nipple (ouch)

I get to remove my bandages tomorrow and check it out, I am so curious of what it looks like, I look like I am wearing a gauze and tape bra and my right breast still says YES on it. (the doctors marked it to make sure they operated on the correct boob)

Overall, not so bad. My hubby says I am one tough chick and he likes the fact that I can handle things without drugging myself up. I did have to remind him that even though I don't whine I still need help. I can't lift our son and do everything yet, but I am close to feeling like "me" again!

Thank you again, all of you for the love. It has helped more then you know!

So glad to hear all went well! I know how nervous you were, and everything went so great. I love how they mark body parts up to make sure they operate on the correct one.

Well, a month and a day after surgery and I developed another cyst in the same spot. 4 times the size of the first one, it reopened the wound.

There is a good chance I will have surgery again. Right now, fight off the infection, then 3/19 I go back in to the surgeon.

This shit is getting real old, real fast!!

i saw a chinese herbologist that said he could break up the large cyst in my breast via herbs. if you want more information please PM me. You might not have to go through surgery. This man is extremely good at what he does, I've been seeing him for over a decade.

Thanks for the love ladies!!

I am heading back tomorrow to the surgeon at 10:30.
Hopefully she will have some answers for me.

I am sore, the cyst broke open a few days ago when the old cut was still open a little....but now is filled back up with no place to go since it has healed shut. :(
I look a little deformed at the moment and just in general, not very happy.

Hopefully soon this will all just be an annoying memory Blarg~

yeah, this isn't really going my way.

a bigger cyst, 1 inch above where the other was. No idea why. They took a sample, broke the cyst wall (and let me tell you, that sucked)

Surgery date, mid-april...once all the tests are done and the next round of antibiotics. Infection seems worse this time.

I hope they find a different answer for this. I going to think about what else I can do. I asked if they would cut the same spot, she said not really, she was going to remove that section of my breast where the old cut was. A diamond shape. Go in, take everything out, but can not promise my nipple to look normal again. Plastic surgery could be needed.

If it wasn't for the pain, I would say fuck this.
I am pretty tough, but I can only ignore it for so long

surgery #2 on friday 4/17.

My mom is taking my son to work with her so my hubby can be with me.

This one isn't going to be fun. I know it needs to be done, but the closer it gets, the more I want to run away....FAST!!!

I am trying very hard to get over my fears with this. I've asked to stay awake during this surgery too...I was told no. But I was told no last time too....I can be a pain in the ass when I need to be :)
