Mike is going to have to go to the Dr. for his bad rash. We think it is either impetigo or folliculitus. It's up under his mustache, between his nose and lip. We think he got it a few weeks ago when he had a bad cold and wiped his nose till it was raw, and then something snuck in. it hasn't really gotten better. He hasn't shaved his stach, because he's afraid whatever it is will spread. When you look at it, it looks like a few dozen of tiny little whitehead pimples (like pinhead size), except in one place where he had a HUGE (marble sized) one, that popped rather grotesquely, but he said it made it feel better. Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but his glands in his neck are swollen. The TTO and Staph0septic that a friend reccomended helped a little bit, but it's been about 2 weeks total of this mess, and he's tired of it. The nurse at the Dr's office told him to keep it clean and put triple antibiotic on it, and he's going in monday.

From people I've talked to, they said they'll probably give him an oral abx and a topical one. This all started after he had a bad cold, and wiped his nose until it was raw.

Thoughts?

Poor guy!

impetigo is scabby, not pimply. i had it when i was a kid and one of my kids had it. it definitely was not "pimply"... that's all i got!

and i remember having it on my chin. i believe that's where my son had it too. i didn't give him antibiotics, i did my herbal thing ;)

i had an ointment as a kid but i don't remember oral anitbiotics.

pimply sounds like a fungal infection so techinically the medicine for athelet's foot will help ease...but I'm no doctor

hrmmm,,maybe I should lean more towards folliculitus then. FWIW, once they break, they turn into scabs

IDK,,it's gross and I miss kissing my husband :undecided:

i seriously do not recall, in either case, any kind of pimples. it was like an irritated spot that went right to sore/scabs. BUT i also know different people react differently to different skin diseases. like there a few different kinds of poison oak i've seen.

I had it as a toddler. I don't remember it but my mother took pictures. My grandmother used to take pictures of ailments too. I don't get it. Anyway...the blisters were pink and around my mouth.

Actually Bullous Impetigo has little blisters..that pop and become scabby. Tea tree can help this in the interim. Tea tree oil CAN REALY REALLY help and so can lavender..They are both antiseptic and lavender is good for the immune system.

Good luck ..I know it must be so uncomfortable for him.

Just a question? HAs he eaten mangos recently? Mangos can cause a wierd fungal infection in some men that manifests on the face. Wierd I know...

no. no mangoes. This all started with a really bad cold, and he wiped his nose until it was raw. About a week later, this started. Blah. He's really uncomfortable. It's really really nasty looking.

ETA ~ I looked up Bullous Impetigo, and it doesn't look like that. It looks like the pic I posted above. THink dozens of pinsized white heads that pop and ooze, and a bunch of them got together and had a party and he has one huge one. :-(

the swollen gland thing makes me think it's something viral.

it's just awful. He cleaned it, and TTO'd it, and then slathered it up with 3x antibiotic ointment and made a bandage with sterile gauze and sports tape to put over it. It's (the infected area) not touching his lip at all. It's from the where his nostril turns into his skin, and then down (where his stach is) and the infected area is roughly the size of a Sacajewa doller.

I really really miss kissing my husband :-(

i think tea tree was probably one of the things i used on my son... (it was so long ago!) but yeah, the swollen glands signify some kind of internal infection, which (stating the obvious) is not good!

Rio had it and they gave her a prescription for an antibiotic that gave her a nasty rash, so I used neosporine and it went away.

I didn't open the link but it sounds like a cold sore type virus. I've seen my sister get them under her nose after a bout with being sick. I would suggest treating it like that kind of virus but since he's already seen a doctor did they say what they think it is. Best wishes for speedy recovery!

update as of today (1/17)

Update for today:

well, he started last night with cutting his mustache short with scissors ( :-( ) washing it, TTOing it and then putting 3x abx ointment on it, covered by a sterile gauze and some tape ((he had been putting something called Staph0septic on it))

It looks SOOOOOOOOOO much better!! It's not as red, not as swollen and is no longer oozing pus.

He's still going to the Dr on monday, whether he likes it or not!
