i've known a few dobermans. great dogs, definately have to be paired with the right kind of people - like any other strong willed, high energy dog, otherwise disaster
Some friends have a red one. So intelligent, well behaved, and such a big baby.
They spent much time in training both in classes and outside class as he was growing up.

I had a red dobie for twelve years and he was the most loving and gentle soul to help me through my journey in life. His name was Brutus. When I met my wife she was the first person he would let ride in the passenger seat of my car with him there. He was simply the most beloved dog I ever ran across. After three he never needed a leash. When I first brought over to Amy's to stay the night with us we put him to sleep in a memorex chair. Within twenty minutes he landed on the bottom of the bed and slowly scooted his way between us to come to rest with his head between ours on the pillow. When he passed in 97 I cried for over a week. Being a deadhead I have seen many a breed of dog and none have captured my heart quite like a dobie. Quite simply one of the most misunderstood breeds there are. If I remember correctly the first two years were not all bad but neither were they a ball of yarn, but thats with any high strung dog. Love and understanding make them my most beloved breed of dog. Thanks for this thread! I could fill volumes with brutus stories!:jump:
Our's was Lexie a nearly 100lb Black & Tan female Dobie, and we had her for nearly 13yrs.
People either love them or hate them.
When on a walk in town people would either cross the street to avoid us, or they'd come running over... much to Lexie's delight. She loved children and calm cool people. We used her as a barometer when hiring people to build our addition, which worked well.
Miss you Lexie!

We just adopted a 7 year old Doberman-Rottweiller mix in February. Her name is Pinky, she is the sweetest, calmest, best behaved dog I have ever met. She is our first dog,I am sorry we have gotten her so late in her life. However long she is with us will not be long enough!
