Also thinking about going to Tricksters. Missy, I'll give you a call. Maybe we can carpool? Jen probably won't go. SHe has work she wants to catch up on at home.

Hey all you Boston cats...there is a REALLY good band that are also friends of mine that are doing a Wednesday nite residency at the Atwood Tavern in Cambridge during February. They are called Bow Thayer & the Perfect Train Wreck. A little bit country and a little bit rock n’ roll. Sorta hillbilly, a smidge political, sometimes comical, often danceable, hopefully contagious.

Bow currently lives in VT, but grew up in Somerville (or as he likes to call it Somewhereville). He used to play in a couple of Boston Bluegrass bands like Jethro, Elbow and the Benders.

Levon Helm (yes Levon of The Band) laid down all the drum tracks on their 2nd to last CD. I saw them last when they opened for Mike Gordon and Scott Murowski (of Max Creek) at Lupo's in Providence.

Oh...and they are all kind folks!!

U2 is pulling out all the stops to hype its new CD, "No Line on the Horizon," which hits stores tomorrow. Bono and the boys played a surprise gig Friday on top of the BBC building in London, and tonight the lads take up residence on "The Late Show With David Letterman," where they'll be Dave's musical guest all week. (It's the first time a band has been given five nights on Letterman's show.) That's not all. According to the Hartford's Courant Eric Danton, the guerilla marketing campaign continues Friday, when Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. play what was supposed to be a "secret show" on the steps of Keating Hall at Fordham University. (Profs have been asked to cancel all their classes, but not told why.) So what, you say? Well, it's very hush-hush, but we hear that the Irish icons are looking to play a similarly stealth club show in Boston. No one will confirm it - or deny it, for that matter - but word is the mega-selling band, which had no difficulty selling out seven shows at the former Fleet Center in 2005, may return to its roots with a show March 11 at the Paradise. Why not the more spacious House of Blues? U2 is nothing if not nostalgic, and the band played its first headlining show in Boston at the Paradise in 1981. Of course, this would not be the band's only New England show promoting its 12th album. They're expected to play at Gillette Stadium in September.

No, I do not watch the news or read the local papers. I mostly listen to local and national NPR for news. Once in a while I catch the free Thursday papers: The Phoenix and The Dig.

So, does anyone have any information on tickets? I see that Fleetwood Mac is playing the Garden next Wednesday, the 11th, so that is the night U2 is playing.

Any information that anyone (who watches TV more than I do) has would be much appreciated!

I had a blast in JP. I have no idea why the text is crazy like this. more on U2:

Somerville officials bracing for a crush of U2 fans are stressing that followers won’t find what they’re looking for if they come to Davis Square tomorrow (today) in search of tickets to the Irish megaband’s exclusive show.
“We expect massive crowds but there will be no tickets for sale in Davis Square or anywhere else,” said Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone. “This is strictly through invitation or radio stations.”
More than 50 Somerville cops will be on duty for the show at the 900-seat Somerville Theater and streets around the venue will be shut down. Officials are urging fans to use the MBTA Red Line and not to drive to Davis Square.

The event comes seven years after a similar exclusive show hit the historic theater featuring New Jersey superstar Bruce Springsteen. Curtatone, who said he received confirmation of the U2 gig over the weekend, said the city is getting used to hosting major events.
“We’ve had a lot of exciting events here,” he said. “It’s a great honor for Somerville and a major challenge. The atmosphere will be electric.”
The Somerville show is the last of three small venue appearances as part of a warm-up for a U.S. tour in support of U2’s latest smash album “No Line on the Horizon,” which is expected to debut at No. 1 on Billboard this week. The rockers first played Boston in 1980 at the Paradise as an opening act and vocalist Bono has said the Hub was the first American city to embrace the band.
Today, trucks of all types and sizes have dropped off lighting and sound equipment at the Davis Square theater’s back entrance. A roadie confirmed that U2 will be rocking Somerville.
“It’s not a secret anymore,” said U2 fan Nancy McNeil, 46, who drove down from North Reading today to catch the pre-show buzz. The funky venue, which also is home to the Museum of Bad Art, will now cram in 900 lucky U2 fans.

Oh, I noticed Entrain is playing at Johnny D's on November 6th, a Friday.

Are you sure on that Entrain data??? It's not on their website.

Interesting side note...Sam sat in with a "fill-in band" at a club in New Bedford on Tuesday (Bullpen). It was him and Dan Swartz on a percussion kit with a bunch of other assorted shakers & such. Sam also brought his djembe. The band also had a 3-pc horn section, and I thought Sam would play a couple of songs on the Trombone, but it was a valve-trombone, and not a slide.

The 9 pc band included the 2 percussionists, 2 guitars, bass, drum kit, and 3-pc horn (Alto sax, trumpet, and valve-trombone). They were filling in for a Dead cover band (Pearly Baker) whose guitarist is in Greece for a few weeks. They did a handful of Dead tunes. It was the first time I ever heard Friend of the Devil, Shakedown Street, and a couple of others with a complete horn section!!! REALLY good stuff!!!

At one point, the horns walked off, followed by the guitars, and finally the bass. That left the drum kit, two percussionists (one on the congas and Sam on the djembe), and one of the guitarists grabbed a cowbell. They proceeded to do a straight percussion thing for about 10-15 minutes. Again...WAY COOL!!!

Johnny Trama has been an integral part of the Boston music scene for many years having spent time with John Brown's Body, Entrain, Peter Prince, Toussaint and the China Band, as well as holding down a semi permanent spot at Matt Murphy's with Public House and the B3 Kings, among others.
Johnny's early influences include Jimmy Page, George Benson, Grant Green, Otis Redding, Mark Ford and many others - which is why it is hard to categorize his playing and song writing. You be the judge and experience it yourself!

Admission is free!

musicmomma - have fun at further shows! $70+ travel to Conn. is way over budget for myself and my wife!

Guess DSO and Playn' Dead more bang for the $ and it's two date nights with wife! :)
maybe I'll see you unbrokenchain at Harpers!

Can I not be hated for saying this:
It makes me even sadder to go see Bob and Phil play without the rest of the guys! I get the side projects but the side projects with just two makes me more bummed that Jerry is gone! You know I wait for that solo from Jerry and it's not there then I wait for those drums with 2 times the beat and it's not there. My mind goes crazy, my soul is torn apart and I hear my heart stutter...something's missing it screams! You know!! Although I'm happy people are able to see two masters at work for the newbies to make new memories for all!!
