I stopped eating meat a couple of months ago and am looking for a good multivitamin. My local health food store wants $40 for a 2 month supply of men's multivitamin.
A tad pricey.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

There are a few really good multivitamins out there. You definitely want to get a good one that your body will absorb (some cheap ones just pass right through you undigested). Anyway, I found one I like a lot called Rainbow Light (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=182). They are food-based, which allows them to be more easily digested and absorbed. They are a little pricey if you get them from Whole Foods or a health food store, but I get them quite a bit cheaper online.

I wonder if my multivitamin (or more likely, something in it) makes me cry. Two days, last week, I took it (after not, for a while), and I wound up getting weepy, both days. Not that I didn't cry for reasons, both days, I just thought it was weird, so I stopped taking it. been better, since.

should be taking plant based multi, not synthetics!!!
buy: New Chapter http://www.newchapter.com/ (you should be able to purchase them at GNC stores)
and vegetarians should be taking B-12, right? i take liquid form (in addition to a multi)

I suggest metagenics or shaklee for all natural, non-synthetic vitamins.

Veglife. Go to myvitanet.com and search for the veglife vegan multi. Through my experience the 100 % vegetarian multi V'S still contain fish or sheeps oil. They F.cken cost way too much and are not animal free.

I second New Chapter. I stock up on them when Wholefoods has them on sale, otherwise they're like 100 bucks a month for both my husband and I. But they have them half off often.

Also good vitamins are pricey, but I spend more on junk food and booze than I do on them, so I can in no way not justify buying them. Also, good vitamins are cheaper than cancer.

I believe you need to look for the word "Chellated" on the bottle?
I heard that somewhere.
It means they've been modified so that your body will absorb the easier.

I second New Chapter.
same here. I notice the difference from New chapter to other brands.
there are also some good liquid products on the market, but IMHO taste awful. My mom is on one after digestive (weight loss) surgery.
i would like to add that a multi is really not the best way to take vitamins. for instance, vitamin e can block the absorption of vitamin c and some vitamins go together better like c and iron help each other out.
if you separate your water soluble (c, b, minerals) from your fat soluble (a, d, e) then you are getting the vitamins to work to their fullest potential in your body.
and new chapter is definitely superior to all vitamin companies! imho ;) rainbow light would be second.

I took Rainbow Light pre-natal vitamins when I was pregnant with Jude and they were excellent. Most others I tried made me feel sick.

thanks guys
i just ordered 6 months worth of new chapter every womans one daily for 45 bux
pretty good, i think
i am excited that i can take them on an empty stomach
my old vitamins used to make me throw up :undecided:
that's an amazing price, dee! where did you order them from??
misha, when i was pregnant with forest (before i knew about new chapter) i took a low dose women's multi from rainbow light. i was nauseous all the time and was worried about adding a vitamin but i felt nothing out of the ordinary.
when i worked at pacific botanicals, we sold herbs to rainbow light so i know that their quality expectations are very high!
