karsen's thread has made me think... what time do you normally put your kids down at night? I just remember bedtime being sooo much earlier when we were kids-- Gabe normally goes down around 7:30. We don't get home until 5:45 most nights and by virtue of late dinner, late bath, etc., bedtime is that late (or is it actually late??)

inquirin minds want to know.. and this isn't just the wee kids, I am curious about our taller friends too..

My kids 3 1/2 & 2 go down between 7:30-8. From what I hear that's pretty typical. Now when they actually go to sleep is another story

Your post made me laugh b/c I remember going to bed & watching the neighbor kids still playing in the street

Karys and Aidan both go to bed at 7pm sun-thurs.

She goes right to sleep

He reads for 15 minutes and then turns off his light.

We get up at 530am on those days

Ouch! Mine go down 7:30-8 & wake up 7:30-8. We always have the occasional 6:30 or so - but rarely a 5:30

i don't remember exact times but i do remember forest was bad we he was little. we'd put him down and fall asleep on the couch watching tv. when we woke up, he'd be sitting there watching letterman!

both my boys, now grown, are total night owls and always hated going to sleep.

Mine are 3 and 5 and 7:30 is the official bed time, but my wife and I don't get home until 6:15-6:30, so we are rarely exactly on time. They're usually down by 8, though. They wake up between 5:45 and 6:15 on weekdays and 7 on weekends.

miles usually goes to sleep around 8-ish. i try for earlier, but most nights he's not having any part of that! tonight is a good example. he's watching the berenstain bears right now....not sleeping. but it's friday night, and the later he stays up, the later he'll sleep....good for mommy. :)

It was 7:30 for years and they both did really well with that. Caleb, now 8 got to start staying up until 8pm this year. He reads for about 1/2 an hour after that. Emily, 13, started staying up until 8pm a few years ago and now can stay up until 9...she usually then reads until 10pm.

during the week, I shoot for 7:30. If he doesn't nap, then I have to fight to keep him up until then.

It's so easy during the week with Thatcher working 3rd shift, he is sleeping at that time. Lucas begs to go into the bedroom to see daddy, so when its time for bed, he jumps in and curls up in his arms.

the weekend, or Thatchers nights off...forget it. He hates to miss anything. He is still awake now...watching the goodnight show, dozing in and out on the couch.

I know, right? But I have to get Mike to either his carpool or to work.

we try for 8, if I can do it earlier, I lie and say it's later... I often say "it's way past your bedtime" to try and trick Rio into thinking she's getting away with staying up later.

she goes to sleep between 9 and 9:15 and wakes at around 7:15.

Yesmeen still naps so she can fall asleep anywhere between 7 and 10 depending on how late her last nap was but always wakes around 7-7:15.

bed time was 8 in elementary school, 9 in middle school and 10 in high school. if you can't get out of bed in the morning it was subject to change to an earlier time. of course high school enforcement was always difficult and creative but we managed to survive and can laugh about it now

Evan is 2...the process starts at 8, 7:30 on bath nights and he's usually a sleep between 9:15-9:30. He wakes around 7:15. I'm sure the process will start much earlier when I go back to work.

He definately trys to stall before getting his pjs on. Then we read for about 30 minutes. Since he got a new train for Christmas he plays in his room with the train while I read the first story. Then he gets up and reads with me for the rest. I then have to either rub his back or rock him. The rocking had stopped around 21 months, but when I stopped breastfeeding at 24 months he wanted to be rocked again. I love the rocking, so i don't mind that. The rubbing of the back is starting to get old....on my back...you know leaning over the crib.

she easily goes to bed by 7 - sometimes 730 - and it's just a kiss, and lay her down, and she is super good at going right to sleep. . . . at least at this point in her young career of night nights

she wakes between 7-730 usually.

Gabe used to go to sleep really quickly, now he will lay awake in his crib and just kick the sides. I have found if I go in and bring him a book to "read", he settles down-- My husband reads him 3 books every night, he knows his books by sight and almost "reads" them with Al by memory..

Unfortunately, there isn't much sleeping in at my house, he is up most days by 6:30. That is technically ok as I have to be up for work anyway, weekends are hard because I just want to sleep. BUT, we have been getting more 7am mornings on weekends, so maybe there is hope for a sleep in morning soon (although I get scared when I don't hear anything out of his room by 7am and I'm up peeking to make sure he is ok)

Maya's the same way- usually in bed by 7 at the latest, but she's up every morning around 6:30 (weekend or not). That part sucks but luckily my hubby is an early riser and will get her in the mornings.

It's really nice to have her in bed so early so we can clean, relax, and have some alone time.

His bed time was 730 until first grade... when I realized that the school activities kept him out until about 8-8:15 and he needed to brush his teeth and get unwound from them.....
so it became and has stayed 9pm.

Most days he wakes up between 630 and 645am.

so, for the sake of argument, I got the kids ready for bed a little early and got Yesmeen to sleep by 7 and Rio was asleep by 7:45... My alarm is set for 6:50am to get Rio ready for school by 8:30...Yesmeen woke up at around 6 and nursed (switching breasts several times) for 38 minutes, then she insisted I take her to the potty, when Rio woke up shouting, "no, it's still dark outside!"

so..... I'm keeping our bedtime the way it was to avoid this drama again... ;)

yeah, well, Yesmeen was asleep again at 7 and woke up again at 6. Luckily we were able to have snuggle time for a few minutes before we got up, only 5 minutes before the alarm went off...

Gabe was up earlier than normal this morning. He went down late (closer to 8) and was up at 5:55. He was telling me "no poopy", which means that his diaper is wet or dirty.. So, I guess it is a good thing developmentally that he is noticing being uncomfortable, but I wanted my extra sleepin time today!!!

I just moved the bedtime back a 1/2 hour & my kids are sleeping later

They've always been like that - the later you keep them up, the earlier they get up

Maggie and I talked about bed times when Damien was born. When he was about 3 months old we decided that 8 was a good bedtime as that time can continue through when he starts in school and has homework and activities other than home. We started at that time putting him down to bed at 8 and even if he ended up waking at night, we still would put him down for bed each night at 8.
Now 2 years later, he goes right down to sleep at 8 most nights and sleeps till 8-8:30 in the morning. If for some reason he is up later than 8 and is overtired, it is then hell to get him to give it up and go to sleep.

I was a stay at home mom until my kids were older toddlers, they're 11 1/2 and 13 now. I didn't really give them a bedtime back then, but generally they were asleep by 10 or 11. I preferred to let them stay up later so I could get homework done in the early morning hours before they woke. If i tried to do it at night it wouldn't have gotten done.

Now on school nights I try for 8:30, and we are usually snuggling and stuff by then and actually falling asleep by 9. I don't give them a bedtime on weekends unless we are waking earlier for something specific.
