The Mets showed just how thin their system is today by sending struggling young outfielder Fernando Martinez back to Triple-A Buffalo and calling up the even-more-struggling Nick Evans to take his place on the roster.
Martinez, who was the youngest active player in the majors at age 20, hit just .194 with a .286 on-base percentage in 18 games with the Mets this season.
Evans was promoted from Double-A Binghamton but has had even worse problems of his own this season. The young outfielder/first baseman was demoted all the way to extended spring training in Florida last month after hitting .093 with Buffalo.
After the stint in extended spring, Evans was sent to Binghamton and was hitting just .276 in his first 25 games with the B-Mets at the time of the surprise big-league call up.

And the revolving door policy continues. Where's all the talent the Mets are supposed to have in their farm system? Did Omar trade it all away??

LHP Jon Switzer sent back down. More moves to come.
Gary Sheffield is not in the lineup again (knee) and might be headed to the DL.

I'm not feeling it with tonight's lineup.

Alex Cora SS
Luis Castillo 2B
David Wright 3B
Ryan Church RF
Fernando Tatis LF
Fernando Martinez CF
Nick Evans 1B
Brian Schneider C
Fernando Nieve RHP (2-0, 1.84)

:gah:

No offense, but I'm soooo glad you were wrong. ;) I don't know what Nieve's putting in his Cheerios in the morning, but it seems to be doing the trick. Let's just hope its not the "50-Game Special."

Sheff got a cortisone shot in the knee. Still think we may see him on ther DL before long. Did Wright get his bubble-wrap uniform yet?

Who were those guys wearing Mets uniforms last night?
What did Evans have for dinner last night?
